Hate Groups, Cronyism, Fascism in the USA

Hate groups have returned with a vengeance.
Cronyism grows in local governments as well as our nation's capital.
Fascism took the minds of right-wing radio and TV announces to new lows.
Fact-free rant radio dominates publicly owned air waves.

I'm now 62 years old an not in good health, which I owe to my poor eating and poor exercise habits, for sure. I have no one else to blame.

I do wish I were younger because of this hard-right turn to fascism. It is not only fighting fascism, it is educating about its growth among our ranks. Even the evangelicals go for fascism without the slightest hint of what they are getting involved in.

What is fascism? For me, fascism means an imposition of capital, which is exactly what we've have been watching. From local cronyism to bank bailouts, it's here.
Never mind the right-wing complaining about bank bailouts, because they would have screamed to bailout the rich if Obama had not.
Which reminds, me, these right-wing threats from the right-wingers must be taken seriously. These guys cannot stand the idea of a black, liberal democrat in the White House. Oddly, he's not that liberal.

Graves Dug Up to Resell Plots, Cops Say

Allegedly, over 100 graves were dug up so that their spaces could be resold. I believe that I have commented on this issue elsewhere, probably something about my graveyard theory of over-population. As a child I imagined in terms of Malthus and his ideas about over population, which both Marx and Darwin used in various ways.

It happens that grave re-cycling is real and I believe that it is going on nation-wide, and probably world-wide in monotheist nations.

Now for the real popper. Can you imagine what's been going on and is going on with the mausoleums around the world? As soon as the deceased no longer has any possible relations whatsoever, it's time to recycle that piece of concrete cube, which isn't even concrete in many cases. It's an expensive facade.

In many cases there or caskets of fiberglass "pods" setting on racks, like cheap book shelves. To the outside observer, a mausoleum's facade looks like it is granite thick, but once indoors, many of these dwellings for the deceased are no different than a small storage ware house, rack-upon-rack. Each with an outside monument indicating the deceased very own spot for eternity or the great apocalyptic destruction of life as we know it and hellfire for you chicken-shit crime scene cleanup cronies.

Why I clean crime scenes.

I am a professional cleaner, which means that I earn my living by cleaning crime and trauma scenes - - "niche cleaning." In this field of bio-hazard recovery, I clean after the traumatic loss of human blood, and I do it for money, lots of money when I can get it.

There are other reasons that I clean bloody scenes, less material reasons; for certain, i enjoy being my own boss and making almost all the meaningful decisions in my life. There's much more to this 24/7/365 middle-of-the-night marathon deep cleaning amidst blood, gore, filth, and stink.

This type of trauma cleaning challenges my imagination at times, and at times my Will to move forward. I often ask myself, "Where do I begin and how should I move forward?" as I remove bloody debris. "Can this be cleaned?"

It is best to first make some sense out of the violent act that lead to the crime scene's distortion of the "normal." This way I can map out where I know that I need to clean. I can then anticipate the breadth and depth of blood and other human effluents to be cleaned. I know too that in the last hours of cleaning, I will find debris previously missed and out of the scope of my initial survey of the debris field. It is not that I "miss" any blood or such, but that cleaning means to clean and re-clean, and to revisit the scene from different perspectives and with "new eyes" after taking some time out for a personal debriefing.

This process helps me to recognize and clean blood contaminated furnishings, mattresses, walls, clothing, fans, books, electronics, windows, headboards, baseborards and . . . toys. Knowing the whereabouts and movement of the perpetrator and victim(s) helps to at least limit the scope of cleaning, usually. Sometimes a crime scene becomes the scene for multiple deaths. Perhaps pets became targets. Once wounded, they too may have ran for their lives as their remaining life's blood pulsated onton their once friendly home's floor and furnishings.

I initially wear organic filters on my respirator to protect myself from the unseen, the unknown, and the horrendous odors related to crime and trauma scenes. Once the majority of blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) are disinfected, flushed, or "red bagged," I can take my respirator off and clean a little faster, but cautiously. This is the stage of cleaning where I transition from "tier three" cleaning to "tier two."

At tier two, the physical hazards should be gone, ninety-percent of the blood should be gone, and the scene should be safe to invite others to view the scene. Still, one never knows about "sharps" like syringes, knives, razors, rebar, broken glass, skull fragments and pieces of broken bone ("shrapnel") embedded in walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture. They may still be present in the beginning stages of "tier two" cleaning, "high tier two."

By "tier one," my job is nearly done. The scene will soon be safe for Molly Maid-like cleaning, safe for family members to begin cleaning, and safe for restoration contractors to restore what the violence destroyed and I destroyed.

Carpet, floors, ceramic tile, linoleum, drapes, furniture, bedding, and more may need to be replaced. What I destroy must be destroyed. No one else should ever witness the offending object's defiled state, ever. This is why I clean, besides the money. I really do clean to help save others from experiencing the horrendous, the unimaginable violence and distortion of a crime and trauma scene.

When done cleaning, I gain a genuine sense of accomplishment. I know that I have returned a scene to something more "normal." I have relived others from this task because of my skills, abilities, knowledge, and my Will to overcome the horrific.

I know from experience that there is more to crime scene cleaning than money. The naive and unsuspecting, the inexperienced and sensitive may suffer from exposure to a crime and trauma scene.

I can help ease their pain by helping to restore the scene to a more biologically balanced environment. Besides helping others, I too benefit it seems. It is odd how life has its rewards in the least desirable places.

I hope these ideas have shed some insight into what I do, why I do it, and why others may not want to try cleaning crime and trauma scenes.

The Political Economy of Crime Scene Cleanup

The political economy of crime scene cleanup works something like this, and I will not bore myself with the facts and details found at crime-scene-cleanup-cronyism. (I do need to work on this web site, though.)

Crime Scene Cleanup with Insurance
Many if not most of the crime scene cleanup jobs with home owner's insurance go to the crony companies because they control the sources of distribution of work. That is, they are in with the coroner's employees, medical examiner's employees, county administrator's employees, homicide detectives, and others. This is not the majority or even a small majority of the aforementioned government employees, but a very tiny percentage. How could it be otherwise? They are not about to share the golden egg with their employee peers.

These jobs represent the most lucrative jobs, and many can be done by one cleaner in two or three hours and the company invoices reflect $6,000, $8,000 and even $30,000 charges.

Crime Scene Cleanup without Insurance
These are the "crumbs" of the crime scene cleanup business. These jobs come from apartment complexes, small businesses, a few non-profit businesses, police departments, and others.
They have no insurance and pay in the hundreds, not the thousands, for the same type of work.

That's about all I have to say on the political economy of crime scene cleanup today.

Durkheim used religions as one of his major variables while studying suicide.

I have neglected to research and write about Muslim suicides in the name of Allah. I mean, I did not neglect anything in the name of "Allah." I'm saying that young people commit suicide in the name of Allah, the great and perfect one.

A fundamentalist Muslim has a belief in the Jihad's existence for the last 1,400 years and that dying a martyr is a direct route to heaven. It seems that this ideology is progressing world-wide and has done so in the past, receded, and then progressed again.

It is my opinion that our great and wonderful former president. Bush, gave great cause to join the Jihad throughout the Muslim world. It appears that what President Bush did for the "ownership society" he has done for the war on terrorism by single-handedly recruiting more martyrs then the terrorists have bombs for.

Now, the Koran prohibits suicide, I am told. I have not read it and I don't want to read it and I don't have time to read it if I did want to read it. Anyway, why are all these young Muslim's committing suicide when the very exact, perfect words of Allah prohibit suicide?

It seems suicide is not "suicide" when committed in the name of Jihad, So I see that it is a matter of tricky semantics that are used to send young people to an early grave for their ruling class holy men.

Boy, and to think how these guys must feel and think about modernism!

Postmodernism - In the postmodern a cultural wasteland arises in consciousness as capital commodifies human thought and action. As a result of corporate capitalism's drive to seek profits wherever possible by injecting itself into human consciousness with its control of cultural definitions of the "real" and desirable, society's ideological posture reflects corporate control of publically owned media. It (corporate capitalism) seeks to create fear of stigmatization and isolation of one's self; it seeks to create artificial needs. Corporate capital now succeeds at convincing humanity that humanity is separate from, not part of nature. The consumer replaces the citizen as a political subject.

Much of industrialized humanity now persues consumer life-styles.

Much of industrialized humanity romanticizes male ideals above a reverence for life.

Much of industrialized humanity has a great interest in the "real," but a pornographic understanding of the visible.

Much of humanity experiences alienation, resentment, and a detachment from others as "reality," reflecting an existence directed by conspicuous consumption and relationships definded by commercial values.

Post-modernism reflected in literature tends to create characters with individual perspectives, transcending the modernist "stream of consciousness" as found in James Joyce; now characters may individually interpret one another's "meaning," accurately or not. More importantly, which system of beliefs mirrors actually existing nature, human and nonhuman?

Hepatitis B Information for the Crime Scene Cleaner

Here's another good reason to keep your distance from blood and OPIM. This sucker likes the open air on hard surfaces, transmits by needle or sharps stick easily enough, and can be found wherever drug abuse occurs (our work place often enough) as well as hospitals.

Hepatitis B's infection rate in the USA is about 0.5 percent of the population.
It is primarily transmitted by blood injected from needle stick and sharps. Drug abuse accounts for many cases of this viral disease because of needle sharing.

Instances of mother to child infection during pregnancy occur.
It is also a sexually transmitted disease and annal intercourse proves it to pass about 1:, 3 females for every male. Among male homosexual annal (sodimizers?) appears to equal between receiver and penetrator.

The virus has shown "stability" for seven days on flat, non-porous surfaces in enclosed environmental surfaces, which gives it a potential for "indirect inoculation of HBV" and can "occur by inanimate object inoculation."

It seems clear to me that keeping one's hands in sight at all times, working slowly and deliberately, and avoiding sharps is an important part of cleaning biohazardous environments because of hepatitis B, HBV.

I will continue to fog and/or ozone first, ask questions later, and then spray my way to the scene.

Death Odor - Miasma

The death odor, which I call "miasma," is not dangerous. Unethical cleaning companies will tell you that this odor is "dangerous." If it were dangerous, coroners' technicians, morticians, pathologists, and Pharos' priests would have died shortly after taking up their trades. The dangers from the death scene odor are in the human imagination; even our repulsion to this odor is learned. There is nothing instinctual about our sense of dread as it relates to the death scene odor. (See new car smell)

Like any other odor, miasma consists of evaporating gas molecules light enough to be carried to our noses. Once inside the nose, sensory cells convert these chemical molecules into electrical signals. These electrical signals are then sent to the brain for interpretation. Mix more than one chemical molecule, and interpretation of the "stink" becomes difficult.

Saying that miasma is "dangerous" because of some sort of bloodborne pathogen hazard is like saying that the cherry fragrance from methamphetamine will intoxicate those exposed to benzaldehyde. It is not so. (return)

There are people that actually enjoy the sweet-like fragrance of decomposed matter, I have heard.

Sometimes miasma lingers because of poor ventilation, Sometimes miasma will linger because it has permeated porous materials; fabrics, paper, wood, and more. Miasma, like everything else in nature, will leave the scene. It begins and ends.

I have cleaned murder-suicide scenes left for over one year. As a result of this extended time for biowaste decay, no miasma remained. The miasma creating bacteria died and wasted away . They starved. Interestingly, blood-soaked garments became pink or purple where they had been first blood-red, then brown, then black. Even blood on walls, ceilings, floors, mirrors, and the rest turns pink or purple without leaving an odor, miasma.
I do my best to remove miasma associated with death scenes. However, removing the source material will not always return the scene to its pre-incident condition for some time. Time and heavy ventilation, and removal of miasma permeated materials will help return the scene to a more "normal" condition.

We can apply chemicals to help increase miasma's departure from the scene, but even chemicals have their limits. Ask about our odor control policies and methods if this is a concern.Top

Bloodborne Pathogens means germs carried in blood that cause suffering. Some of these germs are called "bacteria" and some are called "viruses." These germs can cause diseases in humans. These germs include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). A simple exposure to these germs and others may be dangerous or deadly.

Many viruses are pathogenic, but none cause miasma. Because viruses lack cell walls that bacteria develop, viruses cannot create odors. Viruses cannot receive and export oxygen and carbon dioxide. They do not "off-gas" the way that germs with cells off-gas. Viruses live directly off their hosts.

Bacteria can live for some time without a host because they store energy within their cell walls. They have their own internal digesting organs. Bacteria can change energy into different forms from within. Sometimes this energy becomes a gas. When expelled, we call it "stink" and at times following a death we call it "miasma." Methane is off-gassed and has no odor.

Even so, we all know that bacteria's off-gassing gives notice of its presence. Following a decomposition, it is this gas that pollutes carpet and padding, wood, walls, paper, cotton clothing, anything "cellulosic."

It is said that the human stomach contains over ten trillion bacteria (10,000,000,000,000). These bacteria must off-gas or explode. Sometimes during human decomposition they do both. The strength of miasma becomes relative to the size, diet, temperature, and other conditions related to the deceased. By way of example, a large male's decomposition after many years of alcoholism and meat eating will create strong miasma when the deceased passes away during summer in Florida. A small female vegetarian's decomposition in front of an apartment window in Wyoming during November will cause much less miasma.

In a sense, bacteria germs belch and flatulate as they undergo changes in temperature and chemical composition. They are in a way like humans: they give and take from their environment, except that these micro-organisms exist within our internal environment. This is one major source of the death odor, the miasma odor released from the trillions of micro-organisms within our bodies as we decompose.

We can see that there is a difference between somehow ingesting or injecting odor causing bacteria and unperceivable viruses. In any case, ingest or inject the the wrong bacteria or viruses, and the results could be deadly. Inhale bacterias' off-gassed carbon dioxide and other gases (miasma) and the results are nauseating at worse.

Cleaning After Teen Suicides for the Super Rich

Cleaning for the super rich requires anonymity and a desire to look like a regular old guy, ask no questions, enter by the back door, and refuse to look about; not only do I look like a fat, ugly, old guy, my vehicles are dirty, greasy and styled by dints from bumper to bumper, crown to boots. My peculiar crime scene cleaner's style has gathered a following of rich clients for my practice -- groupies, I gather.

There was this teen suicide administered by three attorneys, no parents or guardians. Each attorney explained that he was an "attorney" and gave the clearest instructions for this operation. The first telephoned and did not discuss money. It and everything else would follow in its own way. He said that I already asked "too many questions" and that there were no more question coupons available for this job, if I chose to take it.

My mother always told me to "keep your mouth shut!" so I followed her wisdom into this operation. I followed the first attorney's orders without hesitation or equivocation once I understood that this was no ordinary client. Once on the scene, the second attorney escorted me from the driveway to the back door, onto the shiniest black marble floor -- EVER, and upstairs to the teen's room. "In there," he said and left.

The third attorney's directions ricocheted off the walls, floor and Tah-Mahal-like ceiling as I walked down the stairs. Once on the first floor, he approached me, raised his right hand as if to shake, and said, "Here." He handed me the biggest wad of five-hundred dollar bills that I have ever seen or will see again. Honestly, I had never seen a five-hundred dollar bill until that moment. "You were never here," he said.

Heaven knows that I love cash! The cash's significance testified to the fact that I was never really there, as I come to recollect. I swear that I was never there. Besides that, I could never remember how to get back there, if there really was a "there," once the address was deleted from my GPS. Talk about beautiful homes! This guy's front door probably weighted more than my first car, a 1967 VW. I left by the back door, by the way.

I know that these words taunt anyone sick enough to read my grubby, sadistic thoughts, but I need to get these things off of my chest from time-to-time. Heaven knows that I really do. I really am a caring and sensitive guy. Suicide is never humorous. Teen suicides are inexplicable. But I mean, gads! A tiny rich kid shoots himself in the head with his 22 caliber rifle because he had a bad day, Richard Cory-like:

"In “Richard Cory,” the focus is not on “why” the suicide did what he did; it is on the mystery itself. Certainly, the people who admired Cory because of all he possessed personally and financially did not expect such an act. To them he seemed to have everything worth living for, while they struggled to put food on the table."

A mystery hovers above the suicide itself, above the "why" he did it, sort of like a hot-link lighting up when a cursor hovers over it. There's an unfulfilled expectation embedded in the lit link, but it leads nowhere, no answer to the mystery of it all, beyond the "why" a rich guy commits suicide. Is it possible to have a mystery beyond the "why" of suicide? Cory had it all. Good looks, charm, wealth, white teeth, "a gentleman." The poem's narrator tells us that he had everything to live for and others little of the same.

Regressing, this kid's bedroom was almost as large as my living-room, dining room, and kitchen combined. It's not about "power and wealth" I used to say. (Now I'm honestly not sure what's going to come out of my mouth or finger-tips!) There's something wrong, but I guess it's part of the mystery of a rich kid's suicide.

Then there's this last one, which I won't dwell on. I can say only that I am glad that I am child-free. I would not be able to handle a son or daughter's suicide. I'll never know how the parents felt about it because I never saw them. This operation wasn't quite as detached as the above because a "friend" filled-in as the responsible party.

Frankly, I would be embarrassed to live next to this guy; not embarrassed for me, but for him. How much of everything "just so" and "perfect" can a human being add to their life? This guy's home wasn't cluttered with books, computers, and cats like mine. No, it was basically sparse with a computer room housing the who-knows-what. "Clean" would be an understatement. Me, I could not even begin to pronounce the names on the cars in his garage, all parked upon a polished concrete floor.

Always I remember to say a little prayer for the deceased teens, whether or not they are rich or not so rich. I do not recall cleaning up after a poor kid's suicide, as a matter of fact. I don't recall cleaning after a gang homicide, which is a form of suicide. (More on this later.)

I do recall that I feel a special pity when cleaning after a teen suicide. It is June, by the way, and I have not cleaned any teen suicides this month. Two years running I cleaned after teens committed suicide because they failed to graduate with their peers. What is it that hurts so much; what is it that gnaws away at their insides, what is it that sends them to self-annihilation? So many, most people in the world, have so little to eke out life day to day no matter what tomorrow threatens. They go on, some with tumors bulging from their necks, arms, or face. Some exist with goiters, others without teeth, and many without corrected vision, and many without limbs. So many have perpetual pain.

In the USA, teen suicides seem to occur when the victim is too short on experience, too shallow with knowledge, and too naive to develop a mental schematic of the world beyond family, school, and church.

I will return to my Hume exercises soon. I think that returning to the academic approach to suicide is in good order after all these years of neglect. It seems that I need these exercises because cleaning suicide scenes and not really thinking about the mystery of it all is a bit shallow on my part, to say the least. I suppose that suicide is society's mystery of mysteries.

Call me Eddie Evans. I want to write some thoughts on suicide, and after researching the Internet and many books, I cannot imagine a better source from modern philosophy for information on suicide and its metaphysical issues than David Hume. Assuming that I get this project out of the way, it’s one-hundred-and-one, I’ll look to other sources. It is my belief that we will see a significant increase in suicides because of alienation, economic stress, family failures, and other social problems.

I am thinking, off the thread here (a bit), that it is a great pity we will introduce future generations to bigotry in the form of racism and other evils that need not exist in an open society. How the world would improve overnight if we could end bigotry alone!

Back to Hume’s writing on suicide, Hume wrote five dissertations on suicide and the soul and completed them in 1755. Because of cultural and religious issues at the time, Hume withdrew the first book and replaced it with "Of the Standard of Taste."

Hume says that Philosophy exposes superstition and false religion, and that no other remedy against these two parasites exists. Even experience and good sense fail. Can you imagine that, experience and good sense fail against superstition and false religion?

By way of example, my experience tells me that it is wisest to avoid left turns, so I avoid left turns whenever possible. I will make four right turns to avoid one left turn. Is this superstition or good sense? Now, my honorable wife hangs left turns without the slightest hesitation. She refuses to mend her ways, and I cannot guarantee her well-being if she continues in this short-sighted madness. If I am superstitious because of my left-turn-phobia, is she less superstitious because of her willingness to flaunt disaster? I have the good sense, for sure.

Usually good sense and experience work great for just about everywhere else, but for superstition and false religion. Plan as we might, our history shows that among our greatest thinkers these two parasites manipulated the greatest thinkers' thoughts to the poorest ends. The satisfied, the “happy,” and the well-to-do find their greatest joys “blasted” by the shallow thoughts of superstition and false religion. Bring Philosophy to the helm as a cure to these parasites and a more just outcome is assured, unless the guiding Philosophy is itself so infected.

Methinks that if I could just explain the ways of God to man the parasites of superstition and false religions would collide with national and local cronyism, and thereby create a vortex like a black hole. These three enemies of an open society would exit our existence by their own foul essence.

Hume wrote Five Dissertations on suicide and the soul and completed them 1755. Because of cultural and religious issues at the time, Hume withdrew the first book and replaced it with "Of the Standard of Taste."

In other words, the ultra-right, or maybe I should say the "fascists," create something from nothing, and then cry "foul!". This is basically what Joseph Goebles did for Adolph Hitler.

This is the irony of the matter. It is the "liberals" that will protect Limbaugh's freedom of speech because they know that an "insult to one is an insult to all." What's he talking about. He blasts "liberals" all these years for their liberalness and now he claims that someone wants to "shut him up." His listeners are so stupid that they don't understand the meaning of "liberal," which means toleration in matters of differences of opinion.

This is rediculous if not just vulgar propaganda. It was Georg Bush that tried to kill what's left of media diversity. I can remember Powell's son working overtime to destroy diversity in TV and radio. Khmer Rouge torturer recounts baby-killing policy

We watched it happen and did nothing. The entire world watched it happen and did nothing, except for Viet Nam. After fighting the Japanese, then the French, then the Americans, the Vietnamese entered Cambodia and took on the crazy Khmer Rouge.

I listened to the radio and read about the doings and thought that I would not want to go. I think that I probably would have gone if asked and given the opportunity. I was young enough. It would have been hard to leave my family and civilian life, but I would have been to ashamed not to have gone. I had no excuse not to go at the time, other than my country ignored it. No one wanted another trip to Asia, that's for sure.

Still, to live as a human being in goodfaith, I would have had to go. I didn't and neither did my country. This is a very sore mark on our history and leaves me feeling guilty. It is too late now. I wonder how many times the world will watch this sort of genocide happen? How many more killing fields will we tolerate?

Obamas' "date night" represents more than a casual night out.

The president serves as a mighty role model to millions of kids around the world. By treating his wife as an equal and keeping her at the top of his world, he shows young boys what a man must or should do.

Equally, young girls learn that a male friend or their husband has duties and obligations for keeping social bonds tight and healthy. In this way the two are showing Americans that family first is an important value, a value that has inherent crime fighting features, like spousal abuse, juvenile delinquency, and the rest.

Then there's the dinner at a sustainable restaurant. How much this means to perma-culture and local control over ecological destinies is beyond calculation. President Obama did more with this one gesture for agriculture's future than Bush did in his entire term.

Then there's the socially significant, historical play reviewing the place of African Americans in the US as they struggled with racism and their own family ups-and-downs. The symbolic power of these two African American's dating highlights the climb in social status from slavery to state-craft. This symbolism goes way beyond what I expected to see in my lifetime.

President Obama is not only talking the talk, but walking the walk when it comes to setting a good example for all the world to see. "Show it to the Taliban," I say!

Regressing to the Obamas' date night. Their critics need to keep in mind that by doing this foundational work, this fundamental social bonding, the Obama's are saving tax payers in the long run.

I don't agree with Obama's gifts to the rich, the ruling class, and I don't agree with more war in Afghanistan. The time for Afghanistan's war ended when Bush went to Iraq. Speaking of which, note how Iran became a big problem once Sadman was gone from Iraq's scene. Then of course, there's North Korea with its bombs. There was plenty more for Bush to do than to invade Iran's enemy. Afghanistan was for Bush to clean up, not Obama. "Get out of Afghanistan," I say.

Apartment Management Companies Cleaning More Trauma?

Of course, if you are an employee cleaning up homicides on blood soaked mattresses for $8 an hour, you may want to change your working-class status real soon.

As it goes, more and more companies do not call back.

Are biowaste and biohazards different?

First, all biohazardous waste is biowaste. But not all biowaste is biohazardous.

I receive a lot of comments about poop and whether or not it is biohazardous. So for this topic, consider poop as a first example of biowaste. For my purposes, poop is not biohazardous unless it has been polluted by blood or blood products. Because our primary concern is blood-borne pathogens, disease carrying blood, we do not classify blood-less poop as a biohazard.

Just an aside here, human blood carries over six hundred known viruses. A simple flush of the toilet causes many of these viruses to become airborne. But we have immunities to these viruses developed over many generations.

I cannot at this time make such a claim about, say, pigeon poop. It is known to carry over sixty diseases. For whom, under what conditions, do these viruses become a health issue? Generally, pigeon poop is probably biowaste besides being a nuisance. For some people under the right conditions, pigeon poop is a biohazardous substance. So there is no simple answer for everyone when it comes to biowaste and biohazards.

There are exceptions. Consider anthrax as one airborne pathogen that is a known biohazard for just about everyone.

My concern remains bloodborne pathogens, though.

Hernia's, hemorrhoids, and anal sex create, in part, biohazardous poop because of damaged blood vessels in the anus. Once poop is contaminated by blood, it is biohazardous. Therefore, poop soiled by blood must be handled as highly infectious, as a biohazard. HIV and Hepatitis C are two pathogens carried by blood found in anal intercourse.

An aside here, it is not uncommon for schools and university custodians to remove poop from walls and floors on a daily basis. At this writing, I do not know of studies for the handling of this matter in education and other institutional settings. We must assume that custodians are taught as suggested above. That is, if poop has blood in it, remove and decontaminate soiled areas as if soiled by infectious blood, biohazardous blood.

It is likewise with urine if it is contaminated by blood; it is biohazardous; however, urine tends to have a high acidic content and creates a hostile environment for many micro-organisms. Just the same, if it is known that urine has blood in it, it is a biohazard.

As I mentioned in a prior post, just think of the nightmare that would be created if all feminine napkins, if all bandages were handled as biohazardous, rather than as biowaste?

Just think what would happen if we treated everything soiled by blood as biohazardous? If we could not remove, if we could not clean blood from property, we would live in a very awkward World!

Blood must be handled carefully. As seen in the above diagram, we consider all blood and blood by-products -- other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as biohazardous. The only safe handling of blood requires creating distance from it; otherwise, sealing blood off so as not to contaminate property, persons, or environments must be carried out safely, quickly.

We need to keep biowaste separate from biohazardous material for practical reasons. Once we label something as "biohazardous," we have created special conditions, special handling requirements. For example, placing biowaste in a biohazard (red) bag means that the biowaste will not come out of the bag. Whatever goes into a red biohazard bag remains until buried or burnt. Although the bagged biowaste may have been safe to treat or dispose of otherwise, it has become a burden of some sort.

For example, what if all hospitals tossed their blood soiled bedding into biohazard bags? Can you imagine the costs? Can you imagine the additonal load on the biohazard stream of containment? Hospitals tend to wash blood from bedding at very high temperatures. There are times when bedding is so heavily soiled by blood that it must go into the biohazard stream. Before this occurrs, someone makes a critical decision: Can the bedding be restored?

What about blood soaked carpet, can it be restored? According to most professional cleaners and OSHA, blood soiled carpet cannot be decontaminated for the purpose of continued use. It must be cut out. The question then becomes, "Can it be pre-treated to a point at which it is biowaste rather than biohazardous waste?" This is a question for responsible parties to answer. Like baby-poop and soiled hospital bedding, placing all blood soiled carpet into the biohazard stream may or may not be economically feasible.

What we can say for certain is that less than a generation ago carpet cleaners "restored" blood soiled carpeting. This sounds icky at best, but a good carpet cleaner with some time and patience can do a remarkable cleaning job. What he/she cannot do is prove that the soiled carpeting is disinfected. Disinfecting carpeting would require soaking it in a high concentration of medium to high level disinfectants. Bleach, as an example of a medium, but corrosive, disinfectant can destroy a large number of micro-organisms as well as destroying their food source. Replacing carpet treated in this manner is not practicable, unfortunately.

Perhaps carpet and other materials can be pre-treated or properly sealed for containment and disposal as solid waste. Given the tools, chemicals, and time, many infectious substances can be neutralized for purposes of disposal. In any case, once pre-treated and sealed for disposal, once infectious materials should never go into dumpsters where anyone might come into contact with such.

A last comment to help clarify this issue of biowaste versus biohazards. Anthrax is biohazardous to humans. Under no conditions can it be handled as biowaste like lawn clippings.

I know that I have played fast and loose with the above terms. I will tighten up this usage as times passes, but for now, this is where I am at. I know that "biowaste" and "solid waste" are one in the same in many or most cases. More on this will follow because there are serious cleaning issues and ethical issues involved with these terms and what they represent.

Dead Cops and Nationalism

I remember listening to Professor Lumpin so closely. "This man is so smart" and a "terrific reader" I would think. I remember the time that he read Fanshine overnight. He came into class totally stoked on William Hinton's stories. The starving Chinese peasants' story to break with their ancient ideology's landlord-versus-peasant relationships kept my attention.

Starvation cultivates critical thinking in the right circumstances. For the revolutionary Chinese peasants, this meant that they broke with tradition going back 10,000 years to the agrarian revolution. From the fertile banks of the Euripides in today's Iraq to the village of Fanshine, labor created wealth. Labor generated profit created by turning soil and sun into surplus value. Food storage and its guardians were needed. History would not, probably could not, have had it otherwise. From the growth of the clan to the emergence of the nation state, surplus value needed to be guarded. I was impressed with Professor Lumpin's recounting of China's revolutionary changes through this micro-story of the nation state turning upside down. Starvation has a way of destroying the subordination of peasants to ideology.

On another day, another subject, I heard him say it, and I heard him say it again, and then again even later. "I hate cops." "Wow, what's this about?" I wondered. Lumpkin did not give much reason for this hate, other than that the cops had somehow mishandled him and others. I could see how someone without much education might make a blanket statement like this, but a sociology professor? What a generalization, and from what sort of stereotype does this hate arise?

I knew from my own teenage years that my rights had been violated by the police, rights that go to the heart of being an American citizen. I had been accused of a deed that I had not done, a deed that I was incapable of performing. Just the same, the cops walked right into my bedroom without invitation to my home, and ordered me to get dressed. This was foul I knew and I knew that they were wrong. In the following hour I could easily have become a "juvenile delinquent," but I did not. I could see from this experience, though, how people come to "hate cops" ("Constable on Patrol' as the British put it).

I did not lose my admiration for the professor, but I did discount his objectivity while continuing to trust his academic skills.

Now I'm thinking that societies have always needed "cops" since the agrarian revolution. How else could the ruling elite keep their surplus wheat, their surplus goods once extracted from the labor of the weaker, landless classes? Without cops, without some sort of repressive apparatus civilization as we know it would not exist. People do not share wealth as if they were Jesus Christ. That was the whole point of "Giving unto Caesar," keeping the peace between the haves and have nots. Granted, Roman soldiers were not cops, but their role was pretty much the same, to repress uprisings generated by the theft of surplus value from the fields. Fanshin's peasants were not repressed by soldiers; they were supresed by the dominant ideology. Either soldiers or ideology will do the job for the ruling elite. Social control is quite simple in this regard.

Moving fast-forward from the agrarian revolution to the Industrial Revolution, British cops in the 19th century spent their "graveyard" shifts rousting the poor and homeless from park benches, from alleys and porches. There were the surplus working poor, the "surplus army of labor" needed for union busting and wage control.

This surplus army of labor needed to be controlled. So it was understood that in London, no one sits at night. "Keep them moving" was the order to the British cops. For the poor and homeless, night time was hell. A sleepless period of moving about, zombie-like, followed the Sun's setting for both adults and children. I can see how the homeless working class and lumpen-proletariat came to "hate cops" in those days and nights. Some would say that at least the poor "were as free as the rich to sleep under bridges."

It is ironic, too, that the cops came from the same class of people that they were paid and directed to displace, keep moving, keep honest, control. In many cases as today, the cops then would have come from among the rousted, penniless, working class survivors of industrialism's unequal distribution of wealth. Police work provided a source of upward, social movement for an otherwise surplus worker.

Like London's "Bobbies," many of the police officers that are policing our streets have few or no real marketable skills. They would not, could not do well in the competitive sector, and for one reason or others, do not have those honed social skills necessary in the monopoly corporate world. Still, many police complete high school with high marks. They are generally bright. They enter the military where their education in obedience and iron-like discipline comes to serve them so well as public servants. Many learn to listen more closely then they did during their 12 years of regurgitating classroom stories.

Overall, I believe, as stereotypes go, and as my 62 years have lead me to believe, the typical cop is more savvy, and more sophisticated in the ways of the World then the average citizen. Also, by virtue of their socialization during 8 and more working hours each day, they learn and hone social skills that most of us cannot imagine. There is no way to measure or judge the many quips, queries, and ways of seeing humanity that a cop develops.

That "thin blue line" gives cops a background and fellowship most of us do not experience, but for church going. For the cops, the community of cops creates bonds only exceeded by the combat veterans of the World; for their hazards in the workplace, cops gain in solidarity what the most fervent revolutionary cherishes, a cooperative comradeship unmatched elsewhere.

Cops are not perfect by a far cry, and why should they be? After all, their ranks grow from society's public education system. There are drug dealing cops, crony cops, and worse (which is hard to imagine). But then, by far cops are generally the guy that I want living next door. The guy (gal too) that I look to for an even shake in business. As stereotypes go, I expect a fair shake from cops in their civilian World.

And when they are in their World of policing, I tend to expect a professional relationship from cops. I also keep in mind that the cop that I'm dealing with may have been verbally abused, insulted, maligned by their last interaction with Joe six-pack or his wife Jane makeover. I keep in mind that the cop I'm facing has spent his/her time in a briefing room with comrades on this very day; the cop I'm facing has information that deals with death and dying, and tomorrow the death and dying may involve his own World of comrades. this goes on for cops 24/7/365.

I want to keep on this thread, this death and dying among cops, especially after this weekends quadruple police officer homicide in Oakland, California. How could it come to this? How could one ex-con, parole violating dirt bag come to single-handedly kill four trained, experienced police sergeants? The newspaper that I read claimed that the first two officers were motor officers, and both were gunned down on a typical traffic stop. Motor officers are by their nature gung-hole; like paratroopers, they get their first prepared to take on their adversaries by surprise or not. They are meant to jump into the middle of the fight and win.

What happened?

Well, number one, a motorcycle does not provide much concealment, let alone cover. But I doubt if either were necessary in this stop. Two trained motor officers would have known to stand apart, to stand so as to cover one another's backs at all times, to keep their eye's on the subject's hands. They did not anticipate. They were complacent. They were not thinking critically -- What if?

Complacency kills cops just as it kills soldiers. Some times curiosity kills cops too, but when they are curious, their critical thinking skills are working. They get killed simply by virtue of police work's demands, especially when they are conscientious.

Also, it is when moving toward a disturbance that cops tend to have an elevation of that male hormone testosterone, a real focus orienting hormone. So when moving towards a threat, we expect, cops have their adrenaline up and their basic police skills up front. Their pupils become pinpoint circles, the blood in their bodies moves inward away from their skin's surface, and their fight-or-flight reflexes become way overwhelmed by the fight side of this physical equation. As helpful as this condition becomes in a fight, it hinders the mind's judgment because it narrows attention too much for a predator-like attitude.

Simply by performing routine duties cops hurt, when they become complacent, when their bodies are out of touch with the reality of their environment. i know this is true from my own experience with cops. Some forty-six years ago Billy Foreman's daddy put a bullet through his head with his policeman's revolver. It was New Years Eve. He had been drinking. Mr. Foreman could no longer work because one of his knees was ruined while breaking up a bar fight. He had no skills to sell. No capital to invest. He went from being a savvy, sophisticated, dedicated police officer to a social dependent in a split instant while doing his inherently dangerous job. So there are social psychological issues to consider here besides patrol tactics and complacency, at least in police casualties. ("Who cleaned up that suicide I wondered at the time.") Little did I suspect what I would be doing in my "retirement years.")

So I know that cops get hurt while in-tune with their environment, and while out-of-tune with their environment. Just the same, the two dead cops at that traffic stop in Oakland somehow got away from their fundamentals of police patrol procedures. How else can we explain two dead police sergeants at a traffic stop, both killed with a handgun? It happens, sure.

Then, how do we explain the two dead SWAT officers responding to the apartment building in which the cop killer sought safety? Therein he armed himself with an assault rifle (God save the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution!) and, apparently, ambushed the SWAT team. He killed two and wounded one with a "graze" to the head. Who was this puke? Only Audie Murphy could claim such skill; Rambo and the Rifleman could pretend such, but and ex-con? There is something wrong with this story. Either the Faiths were working against civilization as we know it, or there is something amiss in the Oakland Police Department. But then again, I must consider that the puke would shoot anywhere and the police do not have this luxury. The police are accountable for every single round that exits their weapons. Place this requirement on soldier and our ours will be fought hand-to-hand or with cross-bows.

How would Professor Lumpin explain the doings in Oakland this weekend? Were these police officers acting as part of the "repressive apparatus" when they stopped this violating parolee? Or were they more like working class keepers of the peace trying to earn a middle-class income by risking their lives? The latter appeals to me, the former has its place in a general discussion of nationalism and the State.

So what happens to the police now that the US economy is broken, or if not broken, damaged? More people will have less, which is not such a bad thing if you are an environmentalist. But if you are a shopkeeper on Mainstreet, today's "downturn" means fewer sells, fewer employees, and overall, less growth and profit for all but the rich. Surplus value must still be protected, even when there are fewer places to extract it.

Physiologically, psychologically, and socially, police officers have a lot going on. Now the US economy conspires against them; the drug war conspires against them; the gun lobby conspires against them, and their work gets harder and more dangerous as a result.

I will continue this thread soon, I hope. My mind seeks to explain a few issues and writing helps my critical thinking by clarifying and distinguishing the World that I find myself in.

Suicide by shotgun

There are many ways to commit suicide, and none of them are honorable. I would think that a person committing suicide would do their utmost to save the survivors from the terrible sight of a mangled body, but it is not always so.

Here I'm cleaning another shotgun suicide. The victim wiped out his life by removing his head, two barrels to the throat -- big, ugly mess. What was he thinking? Did he think that those finding him have no feelings?

What about the cops? What about the para-medics and coroner's technicians, besides his family?

It seems that the American way of suicide for many men conspicuously points to the male's ego as a very large place; their minds are conspicuously narrow, shallow places.

Now the word is beginning to go around that the future of the US looks something like "Latvia if you want to see America's future." So what does this mean for my line of work. More work, more money, more horror stories and scenes. It's obvious to me that something is wrong with the American psyche.

Obama was on Sixty Minutes last night. i wonder how long he's going to remain in the public eye, considering that he's going to fail at most of what he attempts. There's no way around it. It's too much, and he's got so little time, so little to change history's onward movement. How will he handle his own mental health?

Obama has plenty of good support. The White House looks so holesome (swings in the yard, a garden, and the great great great grandchildren of the blacks that built it); he looks so under control and intelligent. Obama's intellect is so great and a great thing to hear and see. He'll hold up. His ego is the right ego at the time and place it's landed. The US could not have done better for the circumstances, any circumstances. He's more than ready, more than we should or could expect. I think the man is up to it all, even if I don't agree with him. Sorry Obama, you are not going to save capitalism from itself.

These suicide victims could save everyone a lot of trouble by making Obama their role model. I like the way that Obama referred to reading last night, over and over. I like the way that Obama referred to "so much information to digest." He's the "digester, the intellect." Before people commit suicide, they need to consider what they are leaving behind. They need to look to people that struggle with issues much larger than their own problems.

Veteran Suicides

I hear that veteran suicides among the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have reached very high numbers, somewhere over 18 suicides per month. It seems that the Pentagon and Veteran's Administration have changed the rules for getting help.

Apparently the emotional toll of combat for the combat veterans is a heavy matter to deal with. And, apparently, the emotional toll for non-combat veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder is very high.

I can see how the non-combatant veterans would be stressed out beyond all imagination. At least in Vietnam we did not have to worry about hitting mines (so much) when traveling. Sure there were mines, but not nearly on the scale that today's veterans have encountered - women as well as men. The injuries that today's veterans have suffered are horrendous, too, creating heretofore unknown survival from terrible wounds.

They're still saying stuff about the end of life as we know it because of the way we live our lives.

I used to worry a lot about this stuff, but I was younger then. I could stand in front of a crowd and rant about the changes to come.

In those days I did not bring up Global Warming much, though. I talked about that "mystery of mysteries," Mother Earth's many species and their habitats. I talked about the loss of a species being a great loss to all on Earth and all to come. I talked about the destruction of habitat as a terrible crime against humanity as well as a crime against nature.

We were sodomizing our planet for a few more dollars.
Now it is more acceptable to talk about sodomizing our planet and Global Warming. In the 1970s when I first read about Global Warming in Scientific American, I thought, "It makes sense to me." I thought that Scientific American was beginning to think the way that I had thought since I was a little boy.

I recall (again) my childhood theory on "The Limits to Cemetery Growth." I had my own version of the Malthusian prediction. It was exponential because more-and-more people would mean more and more people in that tiny cemetery on the corner of Foster Road and Lakewood Boulevard. This, to my four-year-old mind, was of monumental concern.

Now I don't care what the Mormons, Catholics, Marxista, and Octomom says about Malthus. Who cares if he was a "barking dog" for the ruling class? He was right! And then there was Marx's theories on surplus value and its pathological distribution, which owed much to Malthus' exponential population growth theory. Like it or not, Marx was right too when it comes to the nasty nature of capitalism and its consumption of nature, humanity, and ideas. The exponential growth of capital gave us exponential growth and destruction in heretofore proportions unknown to humanity; most of humanity is still in the dark when it comes to what's coming.

And then there was the Darwinian theory, which owed so much to Malthus's theory on exponential population growth (besides Charles Lyll's Uniformitarianism).
So both Marx and Darwin used their own versions of Malthus's theory of exponential growth, their own "Limits to Cemetery Growth."

Darwin's theories carry the most weight in terms of the future to come. It is Darwin that talked about life with or without humanity. The "mystery of mysteries" now becomes the misery of miseries for humanity. Now there is no turning back and Darwin's theories will no longer apply, in many parts, because climatic changes are occurring much faster then species can adapt.

We are looking at catastrophic changes for future generations, and multiple, catastrophic changes for generations to come, and multiple gashing of teeth, and multiple pestilences, and multiple miseries of miseries.

It boggles my mind to see young women and men persist in the procreation of our future environmental victims, multiple crime scene victims upon this planet. We are victimizing humanity because of our simple stupidity, our greed, and our lust for more. We are criminals and there is no way to cleanup our crime; yet, we continue to add victims to our ailing Mother Earth, a mother multiply sodomized by her wicked little human children (and that's all the credit Freud gets.)

I'm going to stop this whining and talk about solutions, real lasting solutions to problems that will persist for centuries. I will make these ideas available to President Obama, right here on my crime scene cleanup blog.

Learning, Internal Dialogue, and "Not Yet"

It is important to keep one's mind on the ball when learning. Any thoughts like, "I can't do this" are forbidden when the learner must learn a subject.

When the learner talks inside the head by using that "internal dialogue" that Allen Watts claims to run "interminably," then the learner needs to choose the right words. So negatives for the learner are not going to help. Positives for the learner will help.

I see when I am intensely involved with learning something "tough" for me, I need to agree with myself to come back to the task. I see that I need to ask myself, "Have you learned this yet" or "Are you going to be able to learn this stuff?" before stopping for the day. "Stopping," I see is preferable to "quitting" for the day, to regress.

I need to say to myself something like this: Have you learned what you need for the day on this project? "Not yet," I need to say to myself. This makes returning to the project at-hand much easier with a "can-do" attitude. It makes the forward-backward motion of the mind's learning more palatable.

It is just so with mathematics and other subjects. Math makes the "not yet" approach more apparent, more useful, and more easily measured -- of all things! When learning mathematics the learning pushes on into virgin territory. A keen focus must be kept if success is to prevail. I know that the learner is keenly focused on the math subject because without keen focus there is no learning in Math, other than "I can't learn this stuff when I'm not keenly focused."

My approach to learning the riveting type learning like math is to work into the unknown, conquering as I move forward. When I find that I can move no farther, when I've spent too much time on the problem, it is better to take a break, regroup until later. Then when I come back, I'm coming back from old territory that I have conquered. This way I have some solid learning ground to help my mind leverage itself into new ideas, new intellectual territory.

I see that learning should never be a negative, only a positive continuum. "Not yet" tells me that the learning will come with effort and persistence. Right knowledge is positive knowledge, not negative. (I will acknowledge the place of "negation" dialectial criticism, though, especially in literature.)

It's so exciting to have an articulate and engaged president after eight years of anti-intellectualism.

Obama's foreign policy is definitely enlightened. The English, the Russians, and now the Americans are KIA in the Afghanistan mountains. Obama wants to find a way out before the last of the US Empire's treasure is gone. He wants out to save young soldiers' lives.

I recall Vietnam with the Japanese, French, and then Americans. We don't need anymore of it.
Had Bush gone into Afghanistan with resolve instead of going into Iraq, we might have done something worthwhile. We could have given tens of thousands of dollars to every person in Afghanistan instead of dropping it in the form of bombs and bodies on Iraq.

Obama's pragmatic, not a fool like Bush.

What again? Antarctic glaciers melting faster than thought

Either there is a terrific melt underway or someone's crying wolf. Every time I turn around, every month anyway, there's another article about how the glaciers are disappearing. So now "satellite data and automated weather stations now indicate it is more widespread" and there's no end in site, at least not in my life time or anyone's life time for the next tens of thousands of years.

Now is someone crying wolf or what? I heard that story about the little boy crying "wolf" once too many times. Now I'm beginning to wonder about this ice deal.

Then, there's that old "Mother Hubberd who lived in a shoe" to think about. I know for a fact there's more folks on this planet than mechanized agriculture can feed any time soon. And some of these folks are using Brave New World technology to bring eight kids at a time!

Well, after my writing on the word "environment," I decided to write on the nature of English, syntax, and meaning. Now it's the ice man melting that has my dander up!

I will get to my re-editing of the environment piece and then move on to the next piece, the nature of screwing up a good marketing campaign by one word.

"Environment" is a good word for helping us give meaning to an event, place, or process. It is one of those words that allows us to mean a specific meaning while not pinning us down to fist fights over meaning. It is not a good word for the dogmatically oriented.

On the one hand, when we speak of the "environment," we might be speaking of an internal or external environment. On the other hand, when speaking of either, we are talking about more than the "internal" or "external" environments. In either case, we are talking about a place without solid, inflexible boundaries, but we are talking about a place. We are talking about a place that exists with relationships between internal and external environments.

Added to this, we are talking about temperature, cycles, seasons, and a becoming and passing away, processes. We are talking about habitat for critters, human and non-human, internally and externally. We are talking about what it is that makes an "environment," whether its embryonic fluid, human and non-human, or undersea habitat for deep sea critters. In both cases, most cases (not to be dogmatic), there is an internal and external flowing of material, be it gas, liquid, or solid material, an inward, outward flowing motion not unlike the Secret of the Golden Flower -- not to change the subject, either.

"Environment" works well with the word "total,' although when using the phrase "total environment," folks tend to understand the internal and external places with and without a connection, places that exist in relationship to other places without connections. For example, I can say the total environment of "symbiotic relationships for lichens," or I can say the "total environment" for "teenage relationships," and in both cases I can explain the two as if I can explain everything about the two. One exists in an environment influenced by temperature, moisture, light, humidity, nutrients, and seasons. The other exists in an environment influenced by family, friends, school, and more. So I can speak as if I am speaking about something common to either, but neither exists as it was an instant ago. Both are being, becoming and passing away because of their total environment's being, becoming, and passing away.

Then again, "Environment" does not work well with the word "total," because "environment" is the total. It is what it is because it contains the totality of what it needs to be an "environment." It is an odd word because to exist it exists by adjoining to another "environment." While it is doing this adjoining, it is also overlapping what it adjoins. And it still has a certain meaning for its users!

To really add to this mystery of the environment, the language mystery, "environment" has no real existence out there, out there in the non-human World. It is, in a way, like the tree in the forest. The tree in the forest which does or does not make a sound when it falls is silent, unless there is someone there to hear it fall, someone there to give meaning to the tree's total environment, its internal environment and external environments, the hearer's internal and external environments.

In the end, the word "environment" has its own environment, a World of contextual clues, meanings, to give it its own place in human usage. "Environment" is just one of those words that make life more interesting and understandable. It is an important word.

Before I forget to get this down, there is a big bright spot out there on the nuke issue, and that spot is Obama's spot.

Already he is moving toward reducing the US nuclear stockpile. It is a first step and an important step that Bush could not find his way to in any meaningful manner.

If and when the US stockpile is destroyed, then we can demand that all others be destroyed. This is one area that I would support US intervention.
What would Jesus do? He would destroy the war heads. What did that stupid Bush do? Nothing to be proud of doing as far as the warheads go. Bush is criminal.

Quoting Ian Master's words this morning on KPFK, "We are all Sweds now." He's using this idea to explain that Bush's legacy leads to nationalization of the US banking system. There's no way out of it and any "half-measures" are extending the inevitable.

In my terms, we are looking at life after capitalism as we know it. The rich will continue to enjoy their sordid form of socialism, while the rest of us will suffer at the hands of some sort of crony Capitalism mixed with social welfare programs. These social welfare programs will be social control mechanism switched this way and that in order to keep the masses from eating one another, one way or another.

Meanwhile, the republicans will continue their march to alienate citizens from control over their own government and means of existence.

Now we're watching demopublicans trying to get out of this mess they and we are in. I predicted this situation years ago as others of my ilk did the same. It was obvious that capitalism goes boom and bust. None of this is new.

It's interesting watching the republicans pray for Obama's failure. I can understand this after watching the shameful, greedy, stupid Bush actions. Obama's like a naive kid that wants everyone to get along, "Can't we all just get along." Now he's going to become jaded.

Obama shows his emotions to the close observer. He's a sensitive man. He's too kind to be in office. He had a about-to-cry emotion on his face when he referred to the Wall Street ruling class CEOs getting their bonuses. "Shameful" elicited the emotion.

Obama comes from a place in the World where his social circle actually gave more than they received, gave kindly to all they could. He's too much of a cup cake for office. The Republican dung cakes will blame all failure upon him; the failures are inherent to capitalisms crush of all before it. Obama will be one of the crushed if the Republican dung cakes have their way.

How anyone can call theirself "republican" is beyond me. They have no shame. There is no individualism, no responibility, no accountability in their politics. The democrats are looking like they are a step above the republicans, but this is a small, meaningless step. It's Obama that brings a sense of stability, a sense of honesty and accountability to Washington DC's corrup doings.

Obama's pragmatism and intelligence seem to refresh everything US, with a few exceptions that I won't dwell on here.

I enjoy seeing someone with color in the White House. It is interesting to see his family in the White House. They seem to give the White House a vitality that's been missing for a long time. It has become alive, at least in my mind.

I am no longer ashamed of the US's president. I feel better about being a US American.

As far as the depression goes, I don't see how Obama can really make a big difference, but maybe he can. I don't know it all, although I did call this one as well as attacks on the US.

What I like more than anything about Obama is that he understands the necessity of moving toward renewable energy and the serious consequences of not doing so. To think that the US population sat on its hands for 8 long years is beyond my imagination, but now something is moving, something is happening. To my mind, Carter was late, but at least he was moving, doing something. Then came Raygun and the movement died. Now it's back.

Because of cronyism in crime scene cleanup, the public suffers; friends and relatives of the deceased are cheated by cronyism. Also, honest crime scene cleanup companies lose needed revenue to service the public's need for professional death scene cleaners.

Cronyism in crime scene cleanup means that (usually) coroners' employees receive money from a crony crime scene cleanup company (green/blue above). In return these government employees give special favors to these companies, like the telephone numbers of crime scene victims and others needing professional death scene cleanup.

Sometimes coroners' employees start their own business with their privileged information. This privileged information is about who died, how, when where, and the telephone number of the deceased's family and friends.

Again, for example, in crime scene cleanup, coroners' employees give the public (bereaved) telephone numbers to crony companies for cleaning services. The crony companies get rich because they charge the public whatever they want. They have few real competitors. These companies are cronies because the coroner's employees give their telephone numbers to friends and relatives of the dead. The crony coroners' employees also get rich by selling their information to crony crime scene cleanup companies. The public pays more because of this unethical business between private companies and tax payer paid government employees. In a sense, the tax-paying public pays twice because of cronyism.

Crony's competitors and the public then suffer, we see. We can see how cronies gain much money, power, and influence while the public gets cheated. How would you like to pay more money for a service because your government favors one company over others? We know for a fact that this happens in many places.

We see that bureaucracies (like the coroner's office) in local, county, state, and federal governments hurt the public. Cronyism has crippled, in part, the Russian economy. So we can see again how cronyism steals from the public because it destroy free enterprise.

Bureaucracies become self-serving. Some even forget who they were created to serve. Add cronyism to this self-serving tendency, and we see again how free enterprise suffers as well as the public good. In regards to crime scene cleanup and cronyism, we can see how some coroners' employees work to benefit from their inside, special information.

After time, sociologically speaking, these relationships reflect an abbreviated form of fascism, but without government sanction.

Note: Legally, for a government agency to exclude one company for the benefit of a quasi-monopoly requires open-bidding for a contract. A contract all are entitled to bid for.

More though, in some areas coroners' employees have seized control of referrals for the benefit of relatives and friends who have started crime scene cleanup businesses. Callers have actually, gleefully, confirmed that they were to receive all or most of the referrals from those in control of referrals. It is like these callers had no idea that they were, in part, no different than cronies in the late Soviet Union.

These relationships cause one to wonder if there are many other ways that the US reflects Russian bureaucracies' cronyism. How else is free enterprise perverted by our various government agencies?

Too much going on and I was way behind before today. Now I'm so far behind there is no catching up. March on, I guess, since there's no alternative anyway.

Obama's skeleton plans sound fair enough, considering the limits to what he can and cannot do. Renewables and jobs make sense. Get the Co2 out of the air and stop producing it as soon as possible. Sequestering Co2 is not ecologically sound. Just stop producing more than nature will absorb ecologically.

I am pleased to hear the democrats making the correct connections between the environment and economics. It's about time. They too are way behind! The republicans remain to make the connections between "eco" and economics and the overpowering domination of ecology to all else.

Obama is a hard worker and driven to ends that I can only imagine. It's really pleasing to see that we will have an ambitious, intelligent president after 8 years of oil mogul rule.

Obama sees the importance of a paradigm shift, and it's underway with or without him or anyone else. The important idea is to keep the greed barons out of the way. Anything less will be criminal.

A look at Palin

Palin is what she is, an evangelical mom with an urge for attention; hence, the PTA and now the election for Vice President.

Like everyone, she has her strong and weak points. Her strong points are found in medieval cosmology. Palin's got strong points in her skill and ability to stand before crowds and project strength and vigor, plus she's very well spoken on her own turf. As for complete honesty and a "Christian" respect for truth, she bends to the wishes of her peer group.

I expect to see her develop the skills and relationships that she has forged in her campaign for vp. These relationships are and will be made with other evangelicals as well as professional involved in republican politics. The latter need work and whether she can win or not, they need the work.

I cannot wish her future as a politician well because she endorses war and nukes, neither of which have anything to do with Christianity or the future of species populations in the wild.

McCain has lost it -- As if it matters.

It looks like John McCain's blowing it in chunks.

He's lost my respect. He says that "Obama will say anything" while Palin does say anything!

This guy's 72 years old and he looks and moves like he's 82.
The presidency requires someone with a certain amount of vigor, and I don't recall any film clips of McCain exercising for pro-longed periods of time. How's he going to stay awake and alert for prolonged periods of time? I'm 61; so I know for certain what he must be dealing with. There are perky, strong and agile 72-year-old men, McCain is not one of them.

He's not over-weight, judging by the pictures. But he's beatup terribly.
McCain must be taking a handful of pills to keep going. How could it be otherwise judging by his history and age. I don't see it. Where's his medical records?

Just by placing the US at risk because of his age and condition, just by selecting this Palin character, just by running the campaign he's running, he's lost my respect.
This is the guy that I thought should have had the Republican helm years ago. Now look at him.

It looks like Obama may actually have a chance at the presidency. Just why he would want to be president is beyond me.
There is not much that he can actually do at this point, considering the mess that he's going to inherit. I suppose that he can get some green technology subsidized at the expense of oil subsidies. I suppose that he can get the ball rolling for a decent, affordable health care system. After all, remove the pork, remove the wars, remove the corporate socialism and something could happen for people.
If he is savvy, he'll throw-in with those Europeans talking about finance capital serving people and business rather than people and business serving finance capital.
I can barely imagine the cost savings when 140 US military bases around the World are closed.

Now all of this is conjecture of course because the Republicans and Dibold are nearly one in the same. And those Dibold machines would have served Stalin, as they have served the Republicans. The point is not who votes and how, but "who counts the votes," Dibold in this case.

Iraq and Afghanistan will not bend to US needs. Iraq remains to explode like a volcano and Afghanistan remains to sink into a midieval mud hole.
Iraq's educational gains will vanish while Afghanistan's educational backwardness will grow in depth and breadth.

US troops will continue to die in vain just as Soviet troops died in vain fighting Reagan's Taliban soldiers. It could have been otherwise.

Limits to Power - Book Review

I'll return to this writing after I've read this neat little book a second time. The writer deserves our attention, considering what he and his family have contributed to the US. I too spent 23 years in the US Army, RA (VN), Reserve, NG. So I am biased toward the author.

As a "Green," I must confess that there is nothing really new here, other than a shift in leading characters. Greens have talked about bottom-up sustainability, accountability and US foreign reliance for more than two decades. (See every Green Party Platform, not just the "Green movement's outspoken agenda.) The idea that the US has propagandized self-reliance (a Republican virtue) while relying on other nations for its economy at the expense to all, including the environment, is an old idea.

I recommend this book for all, in any case, and it should be in every high school social studies' curriculum one way or another.

Definition of a "Liberal" and Capitalism's Government

I remember my college years so well in some respects that I'm almost shocked by this part of my long-term recall.

Sociology professors used to remind us how to keep "conservatives" separate from "liberals."

1. Both conservatives and liberals believe in the inherent usefulness and viability of capitalism.
2. Conservatives believe that the government has little or no place in a capitalists economy ( Ala Milton Friedman's "Chicago School of Economics").
3. Liberals believe that capitalism's excesses must be bridled by the government as a means of social control.
4. Conservatives believe that the government exists to create safe-zones for capitalism to operate.
5. Liberals believe that government exists to quell intense and destructive inter-capitalist acts, price fixing and war, for example.

Now today we see that "conservatives," like George Bush (Who is actually an ultra-right-wing radical.) are willing to intervene in our capitalist economy in a monumental way. It is the liberal belief that capitalist will destroy the very sources of their wealth that brings him to this liberal "fine-tuning," as my professors used to call it. Everything is OK, then. Capitalism just needs some "fine-tuning."

Today we see that "liberals" will go along with "conservatives" to create "safe-zones" for capitalism's development. George Bush, I recall, is not a "conservative." Although he does act like a "liberal" when it comes to the government's intervention into the US economy.
I cannot forget that Bush was and is the guy driven to place the US social security funds into the "free market." Bush might call this usurpation of public funds "fine-tuning."
All is well in capitalism's government.
So it goes.

Hagel says "Palin" a "stretch"

WASHINGTON – Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said his party's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, lacks foreign policy experience and called it a "stretch" to say she's qualified to be president.

"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview published Thursday by the Omaha World-Herald. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

It's an odd day when I agree with a Republican, and today is no different than before. It's odd to say that Obama amounts to all that much of a change, too. Obama uses the "N" (nukes) word. How can anyone justify to future generations our great need for nukes? They have no way of knowing where that stuff will go. I've spent too much time writing about the life expectancy of nuclear fuel and threats to Earth's various habitats for millions of years from the crazy acts of fundamentalist with nukes. Palin, a fundamentalist, claims Earth's greenhouse affect arose from an act of God. Blaming God will not help. God help us!

So, anyway, I don't see a lot of promise out there. McBush selects a radical fundamentalist to become president, and Obama's use of the "N" work disqualifies him from serious consideration. Then, Obama's got to overcome this talk of "earmarks" for his wife's employer as well as others.

The Green's candidate is not a "Green" and she selected a party-hardy girl for her running mate. To think that someone espousing the virtues of rap as an implement of positive social change would run as a Green! Is there anything Green in her head? To think that the Greens candidate searchers are searching out black women for the sake of running black women, regardless of their Green knowledge, amounts to a total failure of Green electoral politics.

It's hopeless, absolutely hopeless. I'm staying home this time, and probably next time!

He doesn't want Americans to notice that the Republican platform is the most extreme we've ever seen -- opposing stem cell research, denying a woman's right to choose no matter what the circumstance, and continuing to spend $10 billion a month in Iraq.

Sad.

WASHINGTON (Aug. 22) - In northern Greenland, a part of the Arctic that had seemed immune from global warming, new satellite images show a growing giant crack and an 11-square-mile chunk of ice hemorrhaging off a major glacier, scientists said Thursday.

There are many reasons to understand the pH Scale. I won't go into them, but for below.

The motivation for sharing this blog grew from a conversation I shared with two men who were restoring an apartment after a drug bust. I was explaining that preparing a concrete floor for tile might be done with muriatic acid. I also explained that "neutralizing" the acid after it etched the concrete was important. Hence, the pH Scale came up when I tried to demystify the acid and neutralizer. If anyone is interested in a color coded version of this writing, click here.

If anyone reached this point, I'm impressed by their drive to stay focused in the midst of tedious verbiage. I promise to add more information about cleaning real soon.

The pH Scale is a way to measure the acidity or alkalinity of matter. This idea is all important to professional cleaning. When it comes to decontamination, deactivating, and simply lifting soil from fabrics, knowing about the pH level of a surfactant makes a difference.

If you recall the "number line" from high school algebra, there is a zero (0) in the middle of the line. Every number to the left of this line is a negative number. Every number to the right of this line is a positive number. It's kind of like turning on the hot water (left) to warm the cold water (right) when taking a warm shower. There is a blend of the two opposites, heat and cold to warm.

Well, the same kind of idea works on the pH Scale. Think of the number line's zero. It happens that pure water is like a zero on the pH Scale's number line. The difference is that the number line uses a zero (0) and the pH Scale uses a seven (7) for its middle point. So pure water is a 7 on the pH scale.

So, on the pH Scale, everything to the left of 7 is an acid. Everything on the right of 7 is an alkaline. And pure water exists right between acids and alkaline as a 7. (Did you know that lemon juice is on the acid of the of pH Scale? What side of the pH Scale do you think soda water will be on? What about Clorox Bleach and Dove dishwashing soap?) Where do you think the human body measures on the pH Scale? (stay tuned!)

Just like on the number line, mixing negatives (acids) with positives (alkalizes) will cancel something out.

Get this: If more acid is added to pure water than alkaline, the pure water will become more acidic. If more alkaline is added to pure water than acid, the water will become more alkaline.

If equal parts of acid and alkaline are added to pure water, then we should expect the two to cancel each other out. As a result, our pure water should remain the same on the pH Scale. But, what if the acid material is more powerful than the alkaline, or vice versa? What if we add one gallon of an acid like pure lemon juice to one gallon of pure water? Right, the pure water is now on the acid side of the pH Scale and no longer in the middle.

Now, what if we add one gallon of ocean water to one gallon of pure water? Right, the pure water becomes more alkaline.

And now, what if we add one gallon of pure lemon juice to one gallon of pure water, and then add one gallon of ocean water to this mix? As we might guess, the resulting mixture will be on the acidic side of the pH Scale. This is so because the one gallon of pure lemon juice is much more powerful than the one gallon of alkaline ocean water. What is in ocean water that places it on the alkaline side of the pH Scale? Right, salt. So salt is an alkaline, not an acid. What about pepper, where do you think that it will be found on the pH Scale? Right, on the acid side of the scale.

Again, when we mix a negative, acid, with a positive, alkaline, Acidic and basic are two extremes that describe a chemical property chemicals. Mixing acids and bases can cancel out or neutralize their extreme effects. A substance that is neither acidic nor basic is neutral.

The pH Scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. The pH Scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is basic, and we may call basic alkaline.

The pH Scale is logarithmic and as a result, each whole pH value below 7 is ten times more acidic than the next higher value. For example, pH 4 is ten times more acidic than pH 5 and 100 times (10 times 10) more acidic than pH 6. The same holds true for pH values above 7, each of which is ten times more alkaline (another way to say basic) than the next lower whole value. For example, pH 10 is ten times more alkaline than pH 9 and 100 times (10 times 10) more alkaline than pH 8.

Pure water is neutral. But when chemicals are mixed with water, the mixture can become either acidic or basic. Examples of acidic substances are vinegar and lemon juice. Lye, milk of magnesia, and ammonia are examples of basic substances.

What is blood's pH level? "The normal pH of human arterial blood is approximately 7.40 [normal range is 7.35-7.45), a weak alkaline solution. Blood that has a pH below 7.35 is acidic, while blood pH above 7.45 is alkaline." (From Wikipedia)

Jimmy Carter was right -- and so too were millions of Americans who said that the current way of doing things in the USA is not sustainable.

"Every act of energy conservation like this is more than just common sense-I tell you it is an act of patriotism."

None of this makes Carter a "green" in the true meaning of the term. This way of thinking makes Carter a conservationist and a thinking person. Carter had the good of the country in mind, not Mr. Money Bags and all of his/her money at any cost crowd.

As a consequence of Reagan's market approach, which it really wasn't when the subsidies are factored in, the next generation of Americans are going to be losers in a mighty big way, resource wise and pollution wise.

Politics and Ecology - Aldous Huxley

I made a copy of the following while using the graduate library at California State Fullerton. My idea is that it appeared in the quarterly publican (If memory serves me) of The Institute for Democratic Studies, Santa Barbara, CA. This "think tank" is way long gone at this writing. Huxley's essay was hard to find in those days, and I suppose that it is harder today. I am a bit scared to learn the truth of it.

I know Murry Bookchin's Social Ecology shows a wealth of development compared to these words. Nonetheless, Huxley has done a great job etching a platform to note. He was as can be judged here, a liberal and libertarian. I place his comments
here for posterity and The Cause - - Political Ecology. Keep in mind that he is writing in the 60s. Prince Propotkin aside, Huxley's words are cutting-edge for his time and place, considering that he too was captured by his own time and culture.

"Some day, let us hope, rulers and ruled will break out of the cultural prison in which they are now confined. Some day ... And may that day come soon! For, thanks to our rapidly advancing science and technology, we have very little time at our disposal."

"IN politics, the central and fundamental problem is the problem of power. Who is to exercise power? And by what means, by what authority, with what purpose in view, and under what controls? Yes, under what controls? For, as history has made it abundantly clear, to possess power is ipso facto to be tempted to abuse it. In mere self-preservation we must create and maintain institutions that make it difficult for the powerful to be led into those temptations which, succumbed to, transform them into tyrants at home and imperialists abroad. For this purpose what kind of institutions are effective? And, having created them, how can we guarantee them against obsolescence? Circumstances change, and, as they change, the old, the once so admirably effective devices for controlling power cease to be adequate. What then? Specifically, when advancing science and acceleratingly progressive technology alter man's long-established relationship with the planet on which he lives, revolutionize his societies, and at the same time equip his rulers with new and immensely more powerful instruments of domination, what ought we to do? What can we do?

Very briefly let us review the situation in which we now find ourselves and, in the light of present facts, hazard a few guesses about the future.

On the biological level, advancing science and technology have set going a revolutionary process that seems to be destined for the next century at least, perhaps for much longer, to exercise a decisive influence upon the destinies of all human societies and their individual members. In the course of the last fifty years extremely effective methods for lowering the prevailing rates of infant and adult mortality were developed by Western scientists. These methods were very simple and could be applied with the expenditure of very little money by very small numbers of not very highly trained technicians. For these reasons, and because everyone regards life as intrinsically good and death as intrinsically bad, they were in fact applied on a world-wide scale. The results were spectacular. In the past, high birth rates were balanced by high death rates. Thanks to science, death rates have been halved but, except in the most highly industrialized, contraceptive-using countries, birth rates remain as high as ever. An enormous and accelerating increase in human numbers has been the inevitable consequence.

At the beginning of the Christian era, so demographers assure us, our planet supported a human population of about two hundred and fifty millions. When the Pilgrim Fathers stepped ashore, the figure had risen to about five hundred millions. We see, then, that in the relatively recent past it took sixteen hundred years for the human species to double its numbers. Today world population stands at three thousand millions. By the year 2000, unless something appallingly bad or miraculously good should happen in the interval, six thousand millions of us will be sitting down to breakfast every morning. In a word, twelve times as many people are destined to double their numbers in one-fortieth of the time.

This is not the whole story. In many areas of the world human numbers are increasing at a rate much higher than the average for the whole species. In India, for example, the rate of increase is now 2.3 per cent per annum. By 1990 its four hundred and fifty million inhabitants will have become nine hundred million inhabitant A comparable rate of increase will raise the population( of China to the billion mark by 1980. In Ceylon, Egypt, in many of the countries of South and Central America, human numbers are increasing at an annual rate of 3 per cent. The result will be a doubling of that present populations in approximately twenty-three year On the social, political, and economic levels, what is likely to happen in an underdeveloped country whc people double themselves in a single generation, or even less? An underdeveloped society is a society with adequate capital resources (for capital is what is left over after primary needs have been satisfied, and underdeveloped countries most people never satisfy the primary needs); a society without a sufficient force of trained teachers, administrators, and technicians; a society with few or no industries and few or no developed sources of industrial power; a society, finally, with enormous arrears to be made good in food production, education, road building, housing, and sanitation. A quarter of a century from now, when there will be twice as many of them as there are today, what is the likelihood that the members of such a society will be better fed, housed, clothed, and schooled than at present? And what are the chances in such a society for the maintenance they already exist, or the creation, if they do not exist of democratic institutions?

Not long ago Mr. Eugene Black, the former president of the World Bank, expressed the opinion that it would be extremely difficult, perhaps even impossible, for an underdeveloped country with a very rapid rate of population increase to achieve full industrialization. All resources, he pointed out, would be absorbed in the task of supplying, or not quite supplying, primary needs of .its new members. Merely to stands to maintain its current subhumanly inadequate standard of living, will require hard work and the expenditure all the nation's available capital. Available capital be increased by loans and gifts from abroad; but in a world where the industrialized nations are involved power politics and an increasingly expensive armaments race, there will never be enough foreign aid to make difference. And even if the loans and to underdeveloped countries were to be substantially increased, any resulting gains would be largely null by the uncontrolled population explosion.

The situation of these nations with such rapidly increasing populations reminds one of Lewis Carroll's parable in Through the Looking Glass, where Alice and the Red Queen start running at full speed and run for a long time until Alice is completely out of breath. When they stop, Alice is amazed to see that they are still at their starting point. In the looking glass world, if you wish to retain your present position, you must run as fast as vou can. If you wish to get ahead, you must run at least twice as fast as you can.

If Mr. Black is correct (and there are plenty of economists and demographers who share his opinion), the outlook for most of the world's newly independent and economically non-viable nations is gloomy indeed. To those that have shall be given. Within the next ten or twenty years, if war can be avoided, poverty will almost have disappeared from the highly industrialized and contraceptive-using societies of the West. Meanwhile, in the underdeveloped and uncontrolledly breeding societies of Asia, Africa, and Latin America the condition of the masses (twice as numerous, a generation from now, as they are today) will have become no better and may even be decidedly worse than it is at present. Such a decline is foreshadowed by current statistics of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

In some underdeveloped regions of the world, we are told, people are somewhat less adequately fed, clothed, and housed than were their parents and grandparents thirty and forty years ago. And what of elementary education? UNESCO recently provided an answer. Since the end of World War 11 heroic efforts have been made to teach the whole world how to read. The population explosion has largely stultified these efforts. The absolute number of illiterates is greater now than at any time. The contraceptive revolution which, thanks to advancing science and technology, has made it possible for the highly developed societies of the West to offset the consequences of death control by a planned control of births, has had as yet no effect upon the family life of people in underdeveloped countries. This is not surprising. Death control, as I have already remarked, is easy, cheap, and can be carried out by a small force of technicians. Birth control, on the other hand, is rather expensive, involves the whole adult population, and demands of those who practice it a good deal of forethought and directed will power. To persuade hundreds of millions of men and women to abandon their tradition-hallowed views of sexual morality, then to distribute and teach them to make use of contraceptive devices or fertility-controlling drugs-this is huge and difficult task, so huge and so difficult that it seems very unlikely that it can be successfully carried out, within, a sufficiently short space of time in any of the countries where control of the birth rate is most urgently needed. Extreme poverty, when combined with ignorance, breeds that lack of desire for better things which has been called "wantlessness"-the resigned acceptance of a subhuman lot. But extreme poverty, when it is combined with the knowledge that some societies are affluent, breeds envious desires and the expectation that these desires must of necessity, and very soon, be satisfied. By means of the mass media (those easily exportable products of advancing science and technology) some knowledge of what life is like in affluent societies has been widely disseminated throughout the world's under- developed regions. But, alas, the science and technology which have given the industrial West its cars, refrigerators, and contraceptives have given the people of Asia, Africa, and Latin America only movies and radio broadcasts, which they are too simple-minded to be able to criticize, together with a population explosion, which they are still too poor and too tradition-bound to be able to control by deliberate family planning. In the context of a 3, or even of a mere 2 per cent annual increase in numbers, high expectations are foredoomed to disappointment. From disappointment, through resentful frustration, to widespread social unrest the road is short. Shorter still is the road from social unrest, through chaos, to dictatorship, possibly of the Communist party, more probably of generals and colonels. It would seem, then, that for two-thirds of the human race now suffering from the consequences of uncontrolled breeding in a context of industrial backwardness, poverty, and illiteracy, the prospects for democracy, during the next ten or twenty years, are very poor. ROM underdeveloped societies and the probable political consequences of their explosive increase in numbers we now pass to the prospect for democracy in the fully industrialized, contraceptive-using societies of Europe and North America. It used to be assumed that political freedom was a necessary pre-condition of scientific research. Ideological dogmatism and dictatorial institutions were supposed to be incompatible with the open-mindedness and the freedom of experimental action, in the absence of which discovery and invention are impossible. Recent history has proved these comforting assumptions to be completely unfounded. It was under Stalin that Russian scientists developed the A-bomb and, a few years later, the H-bomb. And it is under a more-than-Stalinist dictatorship that Chinese scientists are now in process of performing the same feat.

Another disquieting lesson of recent history is that, in a developing society, science and technology can be used exclusively for the enhancement of military power, not at all for the benefit of the masses. Russia has demonstrated, and China is now doing its best to demonstrate, that poverty and primitive conditions of life for the over whelming majority of the population are perfectly compatible with the wholesale production of the most advanced and sophisticated military hardware. Indeed, it is by deliberately imposing poverty on the masses that the rulers of developing industrial nations are able to create the capital necessary for building an armament industry and maintaining a well equipped army, with which to play their parts in the suicidal game of international power politics.

We see, then, that democratic institutions and libertarian traditions are not at all necessary to the progress of science and technology, and that such progress does not of itself make for human betterment at home and peace abroad. Only where democratic institutions already exist, only where the masses can vote their rulers out of office and so compel them to pay attention to the popular will, are science and technology used for the benefit of the majority as well as for increasing the power of the State. Most human beings prefer peace to war, and practically all of them would rather be alive than dead. But in every part of the world men and women have been brought up to regard nationalism as axiomatic and war between nations as something cosmically ordained by the Nature of Things. Prisoners of their culture, the masses, even when they are free to vote, are inhibited by the fundamental postulates of the frame of reference within which they do their thinking and their feeling from decreeing an end to the collective paranoia that governs international relations. As for the world's ruling minorities, by the very fact of their power they are chained even more closely to the current system of ideas and the prevailing political customs; for this reason they are even less capable than their subjects of expressing the simple human preference for life and peace.

Some day, let us hope, rulers and ruled will break out of the cultural prison in which they are now confined. Some day ... And may that day come soon! For, thanks to our rapidly advancing science and technology, we have very little time at our disposal. The river of change flows ever faster, and somewhere downstream, perhaps only a few years ahead, we shall come to the rapids, shall hear, louder and ever louder, the roaring of a cataract.

Modern war is a product of advancing science and technology. Conversely, advancing science and technology are products of modern war. It was in order to wage war more effectively that first the United States, then Britain and the USSR, financed the crash programs that resulted so quickly in the harnessing of atomic forces. Why I went to college

Being here sick, tired, weak, unable to continue serving humanity's cleaning needs until well, I briefly remembered why I went to college, really remembered.

I wanted to know. I wanted to know the power questions and the power answers. I wanted to know what the "knowers" thought. I knew from socializing with college graduates while in foreign lands that there was much more worth knowing and I did not know much if any of it. I knew there was a language within English that was so different, more powerful than the language I was using, although it was the same language. Now I understand that this is an "intellectual" side of the English language. (Now I'm overheating from fever. Funny words following.)

So I went to college and studied hard and then not so hard, and then hard again, and then went on my own path to "college." I was a maverick, reading outside the curriculum, which turned out to be the best idea. I had a couple good role models, it turns out. I did not do well, but I did what I wanted to do. I did explore ideas, people, nature, events, and on and on.

I remember MEAL, an acronym for metaphysics, epistemology, axiology, and logic. I remember studying each as discrete subjects, and then as related, and then finding the axis of it all, social and physical ecology. That's where it lead.

"Art, religion, philosophy, science, social affairs," these terms, too, the American Pragmatist Santayana claimed to be the "realm of being." I suppose there's more between the words, but like MEAL, these words help to place the full of it into some perspective. Well done George!

Now I am writing about suicide because I clean the remains of suicides. I sometimes wonder the "why?" of suicide. Then I remember Durkheim's book, Suicide. Ah, I wanted to know, and Durkheim helped. Education is a good thing. I never thought that I would learn about suicide while in college.

I remember sitting in foxholes at night, fighting the urge to sleep, to fall into a deadly void for moments. Ah, to sleep, to relax, to extend myself into the a dreamland void of non-wake, non-suffering. Sleeplessness is suffering, I have learned. And soldiers suffer so much. I believe that it actually hurt, staying awake that way. I believe that I wondered how different it would all become with the passage of a 7.62 lead ball from an AK 47 through my brain. I may have even wondered if sending a smaller, maybe more deadly 5.62 round through my head might achieve the same peaceful affect as sleep. How could I continue to stay awake?

I staid awake because "Charley" lived well in the dark and he wanted to kill me, and he wanted to kill me real bad, even at the risk of his own life. His friends were just as bad. Sometimes they tried, and because they tried, I learned the skill of staying awake. Staying awake, I learned to think the deep thoughts during the night. I thought the small thoughts too, the thoughts from daylight hours when I watched ants march across the bottom of my foxhole.

These were the "low land" ants. Then there were the "high land" ants, those marching across the parapet in singular order, silent to all but their opposing ant armies. Little did they know or want to know their brethren below gained a much less useful perspective of the World. Their lowland brethern were bound by the limits of their horizon, 4 cliffs, dirt walls surrounding their line-of-march. Occasionally dirt and clods of dirt fell upon them or in front of their line-of-march. They marched on, anyway. What a big difference in perspective they experienced. Perspective would give me big thoughts and little thoughts with more words and a greater ability to nuance ideas, events, and nature.

My thoughts lead to my own perspective of the World as I sat there watching the clouds gather in the sky, way off. As hours passed, as I took my own two hour sleep breaks (If one can sleep for 2 hours in a rice paddy or rain forest.), those "way off" clouds made a slow march of their own to my tiny foxhole below. "How different the World looked from up there" I often wondered.

From the clouds, I might be able to see for miles and miles around. I might see from Saigon to Beinhoe, from War Zone D to the Happy Valley. Maybe I could see Charley?

I sat, legs and feet dangling over the edge of my foxhole many dark nights. I could sometimes see comrades to my left and right, sometimes to my rear, sometimes forward of me. I could see trees, vines, maybe a trail or two. I saw the sky, the clouds, and the stars. I saw the stars a lot. I had not grown up watching the stars. In Vietnam, I watched the stars from my foxhole. The sky stood out so clearly. The Big Dipper and Little Dipper were often subjects of conversation among my foxhole companions, whenever I had one, and I usually did. I will not, cannot forget them, stars, comrades, or Charley.

So I learned the skill of staying awake for inordinate amounts of time and during night time hours when I should have been asleep. I also learned the skill of juxtaposing nature for a more meaningful view of the World and its inhabitants. During these times I thought the big thoughts with my small collection of words, words that I wanted to add to when I could go to college some day. I had not thought of college before, but now it was something to think about. "Why did people go there" and maybe I need to go there and see what is going on. "After this, why not?"

"MEAL would bring more meaning to what I thought those nights in my foxhole.

It is so ironic, too, how "Charley" may have influenced my decision to go to college more than any other character in my life's short story.
I will close for now and perhaps resume this thread at a later date, when I feel better.

The North Pole's ice may not break apart this summer - a first in human history.

Here I am, 61, born Green because I've always asked, "What if," and it turns out that there probably IS something to global warming. Life would have been better for me if I had not been asking myself those silly little questions about limits to growth, those Malthusian-Marxian-Darwinian questions before I had the intellectual ability to articulate these powerful ideas and others. Little did I know at 8 years old that my conjuring about the limits to growth in the Downey cemetary were setting a foundation for fundamental environmental analysis and ecological theory.

I wish Ruddy Devilla was still alive. I miss his skill with these things. Global Warming doesn't take much skill though, at least not much mental power for anyone with time in a green house. It's "no-brainer."

When I ran for office in 88 as a "Green," I did not bring Global Warming up because of the breadth-and-depth of cement headism in Orange County. "What's the point," I used to say to myself. Use something tangible as a Green issue, something like the loss of species' habitat and the long-term survival of species in the wild.

Then there were women's issues, which are obviously on the back-burner, judging by the ignorance of so many women that I have seen - - Breeders and couch sitters, besides those in destitute life-styles and still popping out the babies. 7 Billion humans will be on this planet in less than 15 years. So whose going to feed them? Whose going to house them? Whose going to give them jobs and thereby keep them off the streets? They sure as hell are not going to go into intellectual endeavors, or study technology, or avoid snake oil, trinkets, and bread and circuses. What a fat mess! They'll destroy what's left of wild nature.

What about water? Where's the clean water going to come from?

I had it right then, and I have it right now. The real issues are environmental. Terrorism is nothing new, and in a sense, terrorism has environmental roots, which I don't have time for now. I needed to get the link down. Ruddy I miss those conversations so much.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw the highway patrol behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring.

He floored it to 100mph, then 110, then 120.

Suddenly he thought, 'What am I doing? I'm too old for this,' and pulled over to await the Trooper's arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the Trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch and said,

'Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go.'

The old gentleman paused. Then said,

'Years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.'

Ultraviolet Light on the tiny and from the great and mighty.

One thing I enjoy about cleaning trauma scenes outdoors is the Sun's ultraviolet light. Toss a bloody, paper towel in the sunlight and bingo, those pesky micro-organisms sunburn to death. I am told that nothing kills micro-organisms in blood like light from the Sun, ultraviolet light. Judging from those sunburns I earned at the beach in my younger years, I have no doubt in the Sun's power to destroy my microscopic friends. In fact, I can recall the "bad kid" down the block toasting ants with sunlight. He focused the Sun's rays through the magnified glass and poof! Army's of tiny critters were innocently toasted by no fault of their own. The micro guys live in the dark by chance or design, and never live out of the dark by chance or design.

I guess that I've been lucky to clean in the high deserts of a number of southwester states. I've been burnt for sure, never toasted, though. Higher elevations allow more ultraviolet light to pass through the thin air, sunrise to sunset. Throw in the oven-dry, blowing wind and blood's crimson red turns volcanic black in minutes, wind or no wind. I have much respect for our Sun's ability to destroy life forms from 93 million miles away.

It is with great humility and awe that I read today about an ultraviolet light observation from an exploding supernovae. Imagine an exploding star producing the light of a million stars upon its extinction. Imagine that "The really cool thing about our observations is this light traveling ahead of the shock wave traveled through the star before it was destroyed."

It is all so great and grand, so dwarfing too. We are indeed tiny critters in a vary great and mighty place. We too can burn by no fault of our own. Check the pictures out: exploding supernovae.

Addiction

The below story from an anonymous writer is one of those stories that we read about far too seldom.

Drug addiction is monstrous, and I find that food addiction may come from the same place way down deep.

Addiction is in fact a big green monster buried deep within each of us. And maybe this metaphor is a little too colorful for the problematic reference to a Freudian unconscious state or the hypnotic trance states. In any case, as a metaphor it helps to explain that place in human consciousness that psychoanalysts have long suspected exists deep down. (And no, Skinner would not agree with any of this.)

So long as we keep it in check, we can manage in our world of temptations. Once loose, the temptations become trading posts between the green monster and the inner-most parts of our Being. Day by day we lose our reason to the green monster of addiction. We become a creature caught between pain and pleasure as the addiction monster trades pleasure for pieces of our humanness. We willingly and reluctantly sell-off our reason for swift moments of satiation.

"I have a website, wwwxyzanonymous.com, that I set up about a year ago. It is a lot of fun. I put it together, decided on which products to sell, do all of the advertising and contacting, and I love it! I never thought I would be able to do it. I was a meth addict for 16 years. I have been clean for 6 years (7 on September 25) and there was a time that I couldn't remember how many $1 bills to take back when I put a $5 in the collection plate at meetings. It was scary! Turns out I still have a brain cell or two left.

Since I got clean I went to school and got my AA degree and finished a medical records office assistant course. I got a couple of certificates, one in coding and one in transcription, and I chose transcription as a career. That's my "day job", even though I work swing shift. The website is growing slowly, which is how I want it right now. Although it is my passion, it is definitely not my main source of income. Yet. Someday I will take some business classes, probably set up another site or two, and hopefully grow a good retirement! That is the plan, anyway."

So here we have a success story in the Reason's counter-attack on addiction. There is something about humanity that deserves that second, even third chance. Because addiction is so powerful, proof is right outside the door, I'll do my part for combating the green monster wherever it appears, even inside me.

Biohazards: To preserve or to destroy?

I cannot come to the conclusion that it is better to preserve and transport a "bio-hazard" substance when it may be destroyed on-site.

Why anyone would cuddle a human pathogen is simply beyond me. We kill dangerous human beings when they enter our homes, so why not destroy dangerous biologicals when they enter our home?

But that's just me.

Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) is the diagnostic term for severe and relatively uncommon disorders of attachment that can affect children. RAD is characterized by markedly disturbed and developmentally inappropriate ways of relating socially in most contexts. It can take the form of a persistent failure to initiate or respond to most social interactions in a developmentally appropriate way—known as the "inhibited" form—or can present itself as indiscriminate sociability, such as excessive familiarity with relative strangers—known as the "disinhibited form". RAD arises from a failure to form normal attachments to primary caregivers in early childhood. Such a failure could result from severe early experiences of neglect, abuse, abrupt separation from caregivers between the ages of six months and three years, frequent change of caregivers, or a lack of caregiver responsiveness to a child's communicative efforts. The criteria for a diagnosis of a reactive attachment disorder are very different from the criteria used in assessment or categorization of attachment styles such as insecure or disorganized attachment. Children with RAD are presumed to have grossly disturbed internal working models of relationships which may lead to interpersonal and behavioral difficulties in later life. The Hit Man

This is the first portion of an analysis into the deeper workings of the human mind, especially into the minds of The Hit Man and The Crime Scene Cleaner. Little did I know or even suspect at its beginning that I, Eddie Evans, would single-handedly uncover and document the existence of the "Sparky Complex."

I claim sole credit for this monumental discovery and demand all credit for its use henceforth. The Sparky Complex has no peer review articles, no dissertation, or other documentation relating its discovery by me. Who needs it!

Sigmund Freud and BF Skinner's work has no standing over against this monumental breakthrough into the minds of the world of crime doers and crime cleaners and crime victims. Again, I, Eddie Evans, am the FIRST to uncover the Sparky Complex. I say again to the world that I need no peer group review, no dissertation, or other such non-sense to prove my ownership of this monumental breakthrough.

As a courtesy to the reading public with an interest in such things as nature vs. nurture, social and cultural relativity, justice, deities, and such, this writer submits the following. The web site name, The Hit Man, will contain the more recent working papers on this controversial figure.

In no way is the below a complete document. Readers will note that I have not gone so far as to choose a voice, an audience, and such. This will change with time. It is not often that one begins the gargantuan task of placing in words what nature, God, has brought to our midsts. This is of course, a draft, a working paper in very rough form.

Any content herein resembling the short-short story, The Hit Man, is coincidental. There is no intent here to create fiction. The Hit Man as found here represents my best memory of this singular person.

In my younger years I cleaned commercial carpets for a living. Occasionally I broke with routine and cleaned residential carpets, but usually to catch up on bills or to prepare for holidays and birthdays. It’s hard for me to say which of the two I disliked more. Commercial was steady and dependable. Residential was more profitable in terms of hours.

The problem with residential cleaning goes to the heart of what a man expects of himself, what he expects from others. As often as not, residential jobs required a roll-playing approach in the customer and cleaner’s relationship. I mean, the carpet cleaner often plays out a subservient roll for customers when they become condescending. “It’s time for Sparky,” I used to say to myself as I slipped into my “yes’m” routine. The consequences of anything less often lead to disagreements over what “cleaning” means, what “dirt” and “wear” mean. At risk of losing part or all of my earnings, I played Sparky’s role well by pretending that my customer knew what they were talking about. I honored their theories of cleaning as if they were a Certified Master Cleaner.

Plumbers, electricians, gardeners, and others play out this roll, too.

Many real estate agents and brokers know Sparky all to well. “’Sparky, will you fix the faucet on our rental at xyz street?”’ How about this one: Sparky, please clean the carpets at 321 Zebra Street, and be sure to get the wine and grease stains out this time!

I recall my last commercial job because I cleaned it the night before my brother’s xy birthday. It was about 7:20 p.m. on December 14, 1987. I remember the time because I’d been cleaning a dirty brown, level-loop pile for about 3 hours, 2 hours too long. It was beyond saving and had not been cleaned in years.

I felt a tug on my solution hose. I pulled against the resistance, slipped, and fell face forward into a door jam.
I must have been dreaming. Moist heat entered my nostrils as I fell deeper and deeper into a pitch dark tunnel. Heat increased as I fell. Finally, I began to wake and slowly return to my senses as light returned
I sat up and turned to see a short man kicking my vacuum hose and solution hose.

I figured that this person must have stepped on one or both of my hoses while trying to get through the doorway. He was not angry or annoyed, just trying to dislodge my hoses from the center-path of the doorway. Judging by his height, shorter than most, he had a short fall to the floor if he did step-and-fall from an encounter with these polyurathane hoses.

Why he didn’t step over the solution hose struck me as odd. So I figured, “why not,“ and pressed my wand’s trigger for more solution. As I did, the solution hose raised up from the floor about two inches, just enough for this interloper’s right foot to miss it. He lurched back off balance, then caught himself. He quickly stepped over the hoses and moved swiftly into the center of the room. He would never know that I intended just this outcome.

It was that white pillow case over his head that lead to my spontaneous, playful touch of the wand’s trigger. I figured that this character was out to have some fun with my customer. “So be it I thought,” I meant to join the fun. Humor goes a long way toward easing the pain in my low back as my legs pushed my carpet wand over greasy dinning room carpet.

Looking closer at this character, I could see that he, or someone, had sewn seams along the two eye slits’ margins. Two tiny holes where his nostrils might have ended were likewise neatly sewn. The mouth was no more remarkable than any of the other three holes, if “remarkable” can be used in any meaningful context here. Only his height and sex could be judged by pants because the pillow case skewed any meaningful observation of his true height.

His eyes were not apparent as he stood in the doorway, the sun setting behind him. The sun’s glare created a xyz, disrupting my vision for a moment. But now, standing fully at the center of the living room, I could discern a slight, red glow from behind the pillow’s case’s eye slits. “Odd,” I thought.

My mother instilled in me her intuitive sense of right and wrong and the wrongness of rudeness long before kindergarten training. I quickly left the house and turned my deep drone, Fox Truck Mount down to an idle. Its Nissan engineering quickly responded like a fight jet‘s engine reversing on an aircraft carrier landing. I returned to the home’s doorway just in time to hear my customer shouting at this walking pillow case, “Not me, no not me!”.

Then I heard 3 quick, blunted shots from a small caliber handgun I could not discern. As I peered into the living room, I could see my customer’s head fall back from his neck. His legs were bending at the knees while his torso collapsed almost straight the floor. I had never seen anything like this in my life!

Blood squirted from my customer’s neck in fine streams spouting forth from his jugular vain. The ceiling quickly became a dripping testimony to the jugular’s free-flowing, liberated blood. “My lord!” I shouted with great amazement and shock. Somehow, and only for a moment, I felt a relief pass through my body as I realized I could now stop playing Sparky. I quickly regained my sense of propriety, then whined out loud, “Jesus save us!”.

Blood splattering onto my freshly cleaned, white carpet juxtaposed against the blue splattered walls and ceiling. Simon‘s legs, now supine, jerked while his arms twitched. His head connected to his torso between his shoulders, connected by what appeared to be soggy strips of beef jerky. His had turned around on his shoulders as he slumped down to the floor, knees buckling below his waist. I could hardly believe my eyes. Simon’s head turned 180 degrees around.

The pillow cased character had placed 3 38 rounds into Simon’s neck, the first liberating his jugular vain from transportation duty. The second two rounds crashed through Simon’s 2nd and 3rd spinal bones. In an instant, 3 small pieces of lead crashed through Simon’s neck. Now flesh, no bone held Simon’s body and head together.

I was too shocked, too surprised to fear for my own safety. This veiled assassin turned my World of simple cleaning and small business struggles into a Universe of limitless nightmares; Edgar Allen Poe missed out on the real possibilities of terror stricken story telling, I could see. Simon’s fate had not come to mind, only his horrifying condition. Humanity could not appear so, could it?

Ideas seemed to pass through my mind as if pulsating, as if Simon’s squirting blood set a rhythm for my mind to follow. I had forgotten about the bagged assassin. “Gaa, gaa,” I caught my breath and turned to see this hooded demon looking at my vacuum and solution hoses winding serpentine like into the dining room. Then he turned his head toward me, eyes glaring a deep, dark red. They were like embers burning in a Sierra fire pit in mid-December, burning in deep contrast to a cold night’s air.

I didn’t move, couldn’t move. I think that I must have urinated upon myself, but I was to full of sweat from working to know, to see, to care. It didn’t matter, I could sense. I will soon join Simon, neckless.

The hooded raider then raised his left foot from the floow, about 2 feet, I believe, pulled up his tan trouser leg, and quickly placed the 38 into a tan holster strapped to his leg.

Next, he pointed toward Simon, and said, at least I think that he said, “Clean up this mess.” He quickly walked around me, stepped over my hoses, and onto the concrete surface of the front porch and began walking slowly along the sidewalk toward the street. He turned around, stood for a moment, and waved at me. He waved to bid a farewell, nothing more, nothing less.

A large, circular pool of blood now grew below Simon’s head and shoulders. “Should I go to the telephone and dial 911, or should I wait for this killer to get farther away so as not to suspect me of betraying his anonymity?”, I wondered. Mixed feelings, crazing scenarios, and crazier outcomes raced through my mind.

Finally, I went to the telephone, dialed, and tried to call my brother. I needed help. I didn’t know where else to turn, and I was to tired, too shocked, and too puzzled to make my next move without Freddie’s help. “Darn,” “Good Gravy!” I thought out loud. “What’s his number?” I whined to myself, again eyeing the growing pool of blood, noting the white carpet growing speckled from dripping blood.

“878-7do-marble” I remembered. Freddy loved his telephone number. You could see it on his van a mile off. If Freddy knew anything, he knew how to market and how to use the Internet. But was he going to talk to me after all these months of ignoring him? He’d have to give in. I mean, after all, we were brothers. Sure we were nearly killed because of my stupidity, but he went along to the end on that Mausoleum cleanup.

I heard Freddie’s voice at the other end. “Freddie’s stone works,” he answered crisply, confidently. Like most big brothers, Freddie loved to tease his siblings. Like most big brothers, he could do everything so much better than his siblings. But with Freddy, he really could go the max and well beyond his competition. Stone work, sure. Freddy’s handiwork and polishing skills were legend. His floors reflected the brightest, finest shines in Los Angeles. When the Hollywood well deep pockets partied and talked floors, Freddy came up.

Freddy’s fame stood him well in the floor world. He could take a 1922 concrete floor and give it a mirror-like finish. “Polish to 3500 grit,” Freddy grinned when talking about concrete floor polishing. He loved to polish.

Few remember that Freddy once cleaned filthy houses solo. Turn him loose in a pack-rat dwelling and Freddy cleaned tirelessly, 18, 20 hours straight.

My mind stopped pulsating just long enough to gasp, “Help, help me Freddy.”

“What, what are you saying?”

“Look Freddy,” I’m in trouble, at least I don’t know if I’m in trouble or what. I related my story and let Freddy make up his own mind.

“All right, all right. I’ll be there in the morning, first flight out of LAX. Now call the cops and get your Fox out of there case this bag man comes back. For all that you know, he’ll change his mind.”

The cops came. The cops locked me up. Freddy got me out on bail.

The cops would not, could not believe my story. I gave them my best description of the masked man. So now they think that I’m playing games. What else can I say and do?

Freddy, true to form, laughed it off, and like a true entrepreneur, recommended that we do as the masked man said, “cleanup” the mess.

We were just in time to catch Simon’s ex-wife as she exited the soiled home. “Yes,” she cried, “Please help me get this house back together so that I can sell it and get on with my life.”

I could see that Freddy’s interests now included Simon’s ex-wife as well as cleaning.

“Leave it to us; we’re willing to help you in any way that we can.” he said in his smoothest tone. Freddy knew his way around women as well as anyone. With four marriages behind him, he had enough experience.

Not long afterward Freddy moved to Orlando, Florida. Orlando offered Freddy plenty of fun in the Sun, and most importantly, plenty of stone floors. Orlando’s many hotels offered beauty and entertainment to their guests. Their guests were first introduced to beautiful stone floors throughout their lobbies and often in their guests’ restrooms. Freddy was out to stay busy and have fun doing it.

Freddy disappeared in his own world for some time before I was to hear from him again.

Regressing to the Hit Man’s appearance in our lives, I have wondered how he came to be such a wonder. Is he a creature of his environment, or perhaps genetic mutation of some sort? Are we to believe that the 20th century produced social environments capable of producing this monster? Are we to believe that somehow, some place, a genetic strain somehow led to this monster? Perhaps the two working in concert led to this monster’s emergence as a one-time creation? I cannot say with any authority.

Let’s pretend that somehow a genetic mutation occurred that gave the Hit Man a propensity for his weird behavior. Let’s also pretend that at one time his social milieu led the Hit Man to his unique costume and his murderous occupation.
One, how do we understand his genetic propensity toward psychopathic murder? Science has not uncovered one gene pointing directly to social outcomes, but for infantile patterns in nursing behavior. Granted, the Genome Project has shown about a 10 percent influence from evolution over the past 100,000 years (Discovery ddddd). Other than this general finding, how might evolution have created a genetic predisposition toward homicide? It would not, could not exist for long in any speicies unless such behavior somehow lead to greater reproductive success.

Now if this strictly strong, materialist approach to explaining the Hit Man’s place among us somehow lacks, then we can look for something else.

If one takes a biblical view of this whole matter, neither environment nor genetics plays a role in the Hit Man’s emergence. His part in the world is pre-ordained. He has somehow chosen a path of assassination from a Manachean field of choices. Even here we run into the same explanations problems as our materialist understanding. We just do not have enough evidence one way or another to explain his place, his existence in our world.

Much has been said about the Hit Man’s mother. Who was she? How old was she at his birth? Did she breast feed him, and so on. We have nothing to go on at this point, other than our first reports of his existence show that his father raised him with a pillow case over his head. No one knows for sure what he looks like, outside of his father.

We do know that the Hit Man’s teen years were punctuated by interactions with a Miss Sonia Webster. The two were almost “inseperable” throughout their junior high school years. Even in their high school years they remained close. In fact, an unsolved homicide occurred their sophomore year in the boy’s shower room. The victim, police records show, died of suffocation. A wash cloth stuffed in the victim’s throat. One would have believed at that time that our pillow case villian would have made it to a police line up, at least, but not so. Records show that the victim weighed twice as much and stood 18 inches above our masked villian.

So the Hit Man brushed close to a high school homicide while remaining close to Miss Sonia Webster. The two slowly led their lives into different directions. He, into a life of homicide; she into a life of religious commitment. Her life soon ended in the tropical forests of Maylasia while caring for leapers.

But for Miss Webster, the Hit Man’s life has carried on in a fully serial relationship manner. He has four wives, as of last count. He spends numerous hours sleeping with the four of them simultaneously.

And “what of their husbands?” you might wonder. It seems that of the first three, only the second remarried. Her husband, as fate would have it turned up floating in the Potomac River, just south of xxxxxxxxxxxx Maryland. We wonder what lead the second wife to suppose that it was safe to marry again after a marriage to the Hit Man. Was she so naïve, or did she misunderstand his generosity? Did he great the new husband with glee, planning an execution of the unsuspecting dolt, or did he slink off into the background to wait until the newly weds forgot his presence?

His history and the many homicides directly and indirectly relating to him are too numerous to recount here.
Just the same, let me recount one homicide of particular note.

In Houston, Texas police records show a homicide occurred in a local barber shot, Clem‘s custom and traditional hair cuts. The victim’s barber shop also served as his residence. Early one Saturday morning witnesses said that they heard what sounded like 3 gunshots from the barbershop, although they could not be certain of the gunshot sounds because their report was quite muffled. They also claimed too have seen a small man exiting the back of the shop, the residential side. All agreed that this man wore a white mask of some sort.

We have many stories like this one. They come, and then our witnesses begin to disappear. Sometimes they are found dead. Their demise is often questioned and found to be a homicide.

If you see where my narrative leads, then you too will suspect that this small fellow is a murderous creature with blood on his hands from many places and many times. He is a monster, and not the creation of an evolutionary twitch in the human genetic code or the creation of a Welfare State’s misplaced social creations.

The Hit Man is his own creation! He stands ready to strike out at the innocent at any moment. It happens that he prefers to “hit” the criminal community first or most often, but do not be mislead. He strikes at the most ciil members of our christian communities.

Let me take a break from this description of the Hit Man’s past and the homicides relating to his work.

I mentioned a Miss Sonoma Webster as the Hit Man’s earliest friend, perhaps his only friend. Now I msst bring up another relationship, a business relationship of a weird sort.

It turns out that once the Hit Man does his deed, he cannot tolerate a soiled dwelling as a result of his work. He blows his victim’s head off, splaters the entire dwelling with brains, blood, and cerebral fluid, and then has it cleaned professionally nonce the coroner recovers the victims. It seems that one crime scene cleaner in particular receives the Hit Man’s blessings, and you guessed it - - The Crime Scene Cleaner

Make no mistake about it; these two are in league. Sure, the csc may not perpetrate these homicides, he may have no notice of their occurrence, but he knows all too well when they occuur. We think that there must be, somehow, a way to indict this cleaner on conspiracy charges. We intend to do so, and shortly.

Now, remember the astronaut female arrested on attempted burglary, attempted murder, and battery charges? She meant to zap a woman involved with the same space program male. It turns out that her defense attorney learned that this Nowak woman had earlier dated the Hit Man. As a high achiever she had something for men wearing white hoods, however it works. It did work for her.

It also turns out that the Hit Man offered to “off” her competitor, but for a price. The price? One date with the csc. That’s it.

She refused after meeting the csc. “He’s too quite, too soft-like” she complained.

Now under close security, she may turn state’s witness to begin proceedings against both of these characters. It turns out that the csc has violated a parole limit a number of times. He was paroled from xxxxx for a hit-and-run while driving without his perscription glasses. If we can bring him in, then we can get to this “Hit Man,” hit back, and bring this monster down.

Inspector Forks slowly raised himself from his chair, slowly executing a short blast of flatulence as he stood straight, holding his empty coffee cup, smelling the odor of burnt coffee before he placed the empty cup on the cluttered table. Pictures of the hooded beast pushed and pulled too and fro during his oration testified to the tenacity of the department’s final goal for the masked demon, a place in the sun in front of a judge and jury; the sooner the better.

From the Hit Man’s pillow case looking out, we can only guess what he thought of the humanity he destroyed. We can only guess at what he thougth of the csc. We do know that the two shared some similarities as well as start differences.

The Hit Man’s personality seemed a bit on the eccentric side. He seem extroverted to those he chose to allow into his life. Definitely a thinking man, judging by his ability to even find probable cause to hold him after the.

We know too that he tends toward a materialist explanation of the Universe, which is something not to elaborate on just now. And we know that he is judgmental, believe it or not! The Hit Man has an ethics and morality of his own, and he sticks to them. We have many eye witnesses willing to testify that he insists upon paying for food, clothing, medicine, whatever, whenever he needs them. This is saying something when he can take just about whatever it is that he desires.

One have one eye witness account of a dispute between the Hit Man and csc. It seems that the cleaner refused payment from the Hit Man for cleaning a rather botched up job. We are told that the Hit Man said something to the effect, “It could have happened to just about anyone” in all sincerity.
We learn here that once the Hit Man makes an offer, that it must be accepted. The csc quickly learned this lesson when the Hit Man removed his 38 and shot the csc’s left ear-lobe. A small, bloody stump remained where his ear lob once fastened to his face.

The csc’s personality tends toward more process oriented in this regard. He expected to clean a botched crime scene by cleaning for free. In doing so, he was showing weakness where accepting payment reflected strength. Strength the Hit Man respects, weakness he fears, interestingly enough.

Our department psychologists suggests that the Hit Man has some sort of Sparky complex. We do not know. One day hope to know because once we establish a Sparky complex, more information will unfold.

I like Obama as a person. I like him too much to want him as president. Why would a guy with brains and the drive to help others want to be president, especially after Bush?

Even if the US economy were running well, he's going to inherit all the problems Bush created, like Iraq and the rest of a crumbling World politic. Since Bush, corporations run wild, wilder, while local populations reel under corporate greed and exploitation. How's he going to fulfill his plans with this mess lurking behind him 24/7/365. And then there's the fundamentalist internally and externally gearing up to fulfill biblical prophecies however they choose to interpret the "Word," and with nukes to boot!

These ideas I need to get down, keep down, and post to myself before Obama becomes president.

He's like Tiger Woods in some ways. He's excelled in a land of strangers, many of them with home-schooled, color coded bigotry. A strange land for whites, a hostile land for copper-toned skin, a brutal land for black. It's not only "whites," color coded bigotry grows from all shades of the color spectrum -- a strange land, yes.

Like Woods, Obama hopes to join the "club," and in some ways he has. And he has proven, like Woods, that he can join the club, wear the club's jacket, but the club is not about to let either one of them bring change to the club.

Let Hillary do it. She deserves it, American deserves it. I kept my tongue tied in her regard because the reactionaries spend enough time spinning lies and acceleratingly dirt in her direction. I neither liked nor disliked Hillary. She's a creature of her time, her environment. She's not a "liberal," in any case. Look at her and you see some tiny progressive ideas and a mountain of "go along to get along." She'll fit the club's agenda much more squarely than a golden Obama. Hillary and the USA deserve one another as, I suppose, just as we deserved George Bush. How could it be otherwise after what we've done to the Iraqi people?

I could spend hours talking with Obama on a plane, a train, a bus, not Hillary. The last two weeks have proven to me that Hillary's senses are canine-like. She's searching for a bone, nose held high, and where she craps is not an issue for her. I guess I really don't care so much for her.

Obama's running at the risk of his life. His campaign and climb to fame come at great risk, too much risk for a job doomed to failure. Even had Bush not been president, even if the economy were just wonderful from top to bottom, he'd still have thousands of warheads pointed at the Earth, rain forests disappearing at an increasing rate, and Global Warming. I wonder, does he suffer from some sort of delusions of grandeur, maybe a death drive? What would Freud say?

Obama's too dynamic, too keen, and too deserving to become president. Hillary's like Bush and the rest, like John McBush. We deserve her. Plus, she's more dynamic than the Bush that she'd replace, that cardboard character of a human being.

I hope the best for Obama. He's got my $25 dollars and best wishes, and I'm not even a democrat!

Snowflake had no future when we took her in. Her mother had chosen one calico female from her litter of 3. Just nature's way of selecting the more "fit" from the seemingly less fit caused us to select Snowflake for our future.

We don't know if her mother, "Mommason," rejected her for her frail physique or lack of color. We know that her mother stopped nursing her at 7 weeks and had killed and eaten most of one of her siblings, sex unknown. Perhaps the victim, which was also white, had been a male. Perhaps nature told Momason that females were more important than males.

We know how important Snowflake is to us today. From the moment that I picked her up she has been fearless. Snowflake fears no cat, no man, no woman. Is she stupid? Na, I don't think so. She's supper loving. That fifty-cent word, "wonderful," surely applies to Snowflake. The wife calls here "adorable." A word I've never learned to use.

People will read this stuff and gloss over it. Bush should have been impeached years ago. It's hard for me to imagine an infantry soldier serving in Iraq. it's like Vietnam. How would you like to be the last American soldier to die in Iraq, especially knowing what we know now? At least the Gulf of Tonkin incident was one incident and not an on-going deal. I recall hearing John McCain saying there was no incident at the Gulf of Tonkin. He would know since he was the one of the Navy pilots sent to check it out, to change the subject briefly. Anything short of impeaching Bush is going to give the OK to future administrations that perpetuate lies and manipulation for the sake of their personal agendas. Whether or not Saddam was a bad guy is beside the point. (There are plenty of bad guys, like in the White House.) The Bush administration lied repeatedly and manufactured conditions for sending US troops into a big fat lie to die. Naturally, we did not need a study to point to the obvious.

Anyone with their head above ground would have known that the "pound cake" was a lie and had been a lie fabricated over a year before Bush used it in his speech. He knew what he was saying was a lie. I'm ashamed of so-called "General Powell" for his part in all of this. If he had his hand in combat during Vietnam, how can he escape hell fire and damnation now that he has proven his role in killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi's and wounding and killing US soldiers?

The entire administration should be taken out and placed against the White House in direct sunlight and made to answer critical questions from a critical public. Alas, it is too late. The stage is set for a willing public complicit in terrorism against women and children Worldwide.

It would seem that the lies about Iraq would be enough, but then we have this on-going game to displace public attention away from the real nature of Global Warming and the genuine threats to the US as well as Worldwide environmental balance, a genuine catastrophe beyond description.

Since its beginning, capitalism has been a story of highs and lows. Some must lose so that others can win. The surplus gained from others' failings goes into some future design of capitals march forward by chance and by necessity. GROW OR DIE!

So we should not get too upset by the news this morning that stocks plummeted Worldwide.

What we do need to keep in mind and in our pinpoint focus, is that capitals' surge and burst, grow or die, unequal distribution occurred on a landscape of prestine waters and forests, on virgin habitat for hundreds of years. Now that its growth has lead to tight resource availability, more of capital goes to wars to ensure access to the stuff that is so important to its growth.

Forests are either gone or turned into tree farms Worldwide. Tree farms are not sustainable for the long haul, the 10,000 years plus haul. They will remain for many human generations, given the input of appropriate biologicals, but they will not produce that wide diversity of habitat and species our ancient forests provided.

Likewise with the ancient seed bearing habitats of the World, gone forever in most cases. Manipulation of the genetic code cannot replace nature's diversity. The boom and bust cycles of capitalism have sucked much of the life out of our planet.

I will have more to say to myself on these issues. I suspect that capitalism will become incredibly meaner with the onset of Global Warming in its apparent, early arrival.

I suspect that Hitler's doings will be small in comparison to what's coming. We've yet to see the nuclear powers flex their radioactivity in the defense of capitals' World hegemony.

First and foremost, the Internet is for learning.
That's how it started, and today the savvy learner will know what the Internet represents, a mighty tool for the intellect and research.

The Internet started with intellectuals and scientists interested in sharing vast amounts of information quickly over long distances. They wanted to have a place to store information, too.
Naturally, the military had a hand in all of this too.

Today Mr. Money Bags has his hand in the Internet, obviously, and not always for the better. I agree and applaud the neat stuff available because of capital's infusion into the Internet. It's really neat to speed along and find so many things to buy and share.
Of course there's the downside, the ever-growing nuisance of advertising, which we are all inundated with from morning until night and even longer.

Getting to the gist of this subject, I just did a search on various commercial search engines, you know who they are, Yahoo!, Google, and those little guys too. Great as they are, they do not and cannot approach the mighty, glorious efforts found on Wikipedia. Do a search for "airports" on Wikipedia and you'll see what I mean.

The information compiled on Wikipedia receives the criticism that it is not "scholarly" like the large encyclopedias. Also, some people say that Wikipedia does not carry that heavy credibility earned by the large, commercial encyclopedias. I say, "not so." Wikipedia is current, peer-reviewed information and can be corrected in a moment. This is not so of the large, commercial encyclopedias. Do you remember how the large, commercial encyclopedias perpetuated ill-advised theories of race and racism? I do. I remember the less-than-knowledgeable anthropologists were given top ranking in commercial encyclopedias to espouse their nonsense.

Years following the correction of their problems with science and fact, these encyclopedias were still found on library and family shelves to mislead eager learners. This myth, story, began with the German anthropologist Bloomenbach in the late 18th century. ( See The Geometer of Race by Stephen Jay Gould, below). Mixed with various sorts of bigotry and fear of others, racism grew to monumental, institutional proportions. Nevertheless, we know through genetics and history that humanity has existed as one race for many thousands of years. We hope to combat the ignorance of racism with the articles and links below.>>

Like I said, the Internet's place is first and foremost for learning, not commercial advertising. I suppose that we're condemned to commercials, but it's important to keep first things first.

A Boomerang Comes Back

CANBERRA (Reuters) - "Proving boomerangs really do come back, an Australian town was on Thursday celebrating the return of a boomerang stolen from an outback museum by an American tourist 25 years ago."

Boomerangs are a technological marvel going way back beyond recorded history. How could anyone ever imagined such a piece of wonder, a tool designed to catch dinner and return when it failed to do so. I imagine that its first creator played at throwing various sticks, spears, and anything else that stood out in the brush. By serendipity and slowly working their way up the first such learn curve, the first boomerang creator discovered the unimaginable.

Or, is the boomerang's design was imagined out of necessity by a hunter-gatherer because chasing and losing spears is such a tax on time and energy? My idealist friends will enjoy this notion: Perhaps the first boomerang creator imagined that a curved object would return simply because it has a curve. Perhaps this pre-historic physicist intuited the boomerang's design. Perhaps some sort of sympathetic magic was at work in the creator's mind as he (I'm not sure that this creator was male.) molded theory into practice.

Getting back to the theft above, a spoiled American visitor perpetrated a crime against an Australian museum and technological history. He stole from one of the very first creators of a truly revolutionary design, a design used to this very day on swept wing aircraft as well as the "flying wing." I wonder how many visitors to that museum missed out on seeing this boomerang and were somehow less excited about technological innovations as a result? Well, at least the thief grew up and returned the boomerang, an object created for its return value, an irony for certain. Besides, the museum must have had other boomerangs to display.

Most of us do dumb things when we are young and many thieves are young. I figure that thieves that continue to steal in their senior years are still immature, at least in the industrialized countries. Overall, it is a good thing for cleaning up crime that none of us stay young for long.

I recall the thieves in Iraq looting and destroying museums when the US invited itself into that ancient part of the World, and they did not look so young. The artifacts stolen were not like the prehistory boomerang stolen as we read in the article from Reuters. No, the artifacts stolen from the people of Iraq and the future's memory were not designed to return; They will not return because in most cases they have been destroyed or lost. In those few cases that priceless stones and such make their way to the market, individuals will pass them down their family line, well beyond the reach of the public view.

That's the way it goes in the ironies of thievery, history, and technology.

John Dewey and Social Testing

John Dewey was big on hands-on experiential training for general education. Like, taking a piece of cotton, holding it in front of a classroom of young learners, talking about it, and then passing it around.

He would have, and probably did, cause others to create lesson plans around cotton to teach World and American History. He would have, and possibly did, cause others to have students analyze cotton's texture and its visual patterns under a microscope.

Dewey's approach left testing to the side, or should I think and say, "Dewey never stopped testing because he was testing his own philosophy of learning and practice incrementally." Testing is or should be an on-going activity inseparable from the learning process as well as indistinguishable from learning, in the most part.

In the social field we run into problems with testing. The latest on public schools and testing should be enough to prove this point.

Social testing is an ethical issue that goes beyond the classroom. Social testing gives the learner an opportunity to follow his or her choices, although the choices to be made are structured by rewards given at random and by schedules of positive reinforcement. The outcomes are still hard to predict because of the many variables present before testing, the many unknowns that the learner has processed in their own testing of others in their socialization process.

I have, I believe, been fortunate in my education, or at least my socialization; Perhaps I've been trained to be a little too sophisticated in some regards, less so in others. I've been fortunate in terms of knowing where I was going with my "social testing." I have not been surprised. Disappointed, yes, surprised, no. I suppose there's a little bit of Iago (Shakespeare) in all of us. The worse characteristics of human manipulation, that is. I hope not to duplicate these on my own part or the part of others. It unfortunate when I see Iago emerge in others at the end of my social testing of their character.

I'm not sure if these figures are sociologically or politically significant or not. I have no figures for the general population or other populations to compare with.

According to one report quoting CBS, approximately 1,000 veteran suicides occur weekly in the USA.

Methodology: Telephone calls to all counties in the USA requesting data on this subject, which is not (apparently) available from the US Government sources. I would very much like to be corrected on the unavailability claim regarding veteran suicide data availability via the US Government. After all, Durkheim died 91 years ago. This should not be asking much from the government that placed a man on the moon!

The Bush administration, which is widely known, also, uses rose colored spectacles to describe its support for Veterans.
